Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: This was a great casual read. It was very fun and humorous. I would grab any other book right off the shelf that the author writes in this genre.
Rating: Summary: Tres Bien Review: An entertaining and humorous read. How about that Charlie Dunlain turning out to be the 'little earl'? I just knew it! Since the moment Moi met Charlie I felt that they would wind up with each other. How right I was! Actually, the 'little earl' thing is similar to the 'Ethan Miles' thing in the movie 'See Jane Date'. Jane(Charisma Carpenter) is unlucky in love and her aunt(Linda Dano) tells her to go out with the nice 'Ethan Miles'. In the end Jane finds out that the guy she knows and likes is actually Ethan Miles. Just like Moi's mother telling her to give the 'little earl' a chance, which Moi does. Great read, recommend it to those who love fashion and romance.
Rating: Summary: Don't Bother Review: My friend recommended this book, but I couldn't get past chapter two. After thirty-some-odd pages, I said to myself, "Where is this going?" It wasn't interesting. A quote on the back of the book says that it's a satire, so I tried to look at it as such. But honestly, if I hadn't read that quote, I wouldn't know it was a satire--at least from the first two chapters. It just was flat and uninteresting. I had a hunch that it wouldn't get any better, so I am returning it to the library tomorrow. I have to admit, I am disappointed and was hoping for a fun, light read.
If you want funny, adorable chic lit, read Sophie Kinsella. She's witty, fun, and her main Shopaholic character, Becky Bloomwood, is very down-to-earth unlike the main character of Bergdorf Blondes whom we know only as "Moi." Frankly, the French phrases interspersed with English were annoying and pretentious. I'm sure Ms. Sykes worked very hard on this book and I feel bad that I didn't get through it. Hopefully her next one will be better. As for Bergdorf Blondes, do yourself a favor and skip it.
Rating: Summary: This plum has no flavor Review: Any comparison between Plum Sykes and Candace Bushnell is offensive to the latter. Bushnell has created memorable characters (Carrie Bradshaw and Janie Wilcox, for example) and writes about New York society with a knowledge, sense of humor and irony that have been rarely seen since Tom Wolfe wrote "The Bonfire of Vanities."
What Plum Sykes does, on the other hand, is name-drop: brands (and more brands - is she getting a commission?) clubs, restaurants, etc. Her main character, Moi, is as one-dimensional as a cardboard figure - and about as interesting. Julie Bergdorf is not much better.
I forced myself to finish this book because I refused to believe that a best seller could be total and absolute garbage. I kept on thinking that at some point this book just HAD to get better. I was wrong. What a waste of time, money and brain cells. Do yourself a favor: stay away from the Bergdorf Morons.
Rating: Summary: We get it... Review: ... you know all the luxury brands, the thread count of the sheets at the Mercer Hotel, and the name of all the fashionable (read expensive) places in the city. Too bad that's all you seem to know. You don't know how to create characters, how to make a plot interesting, or how to write.
But let's give credit where credit is due: you must be the best self-promoter in the world because you managed, with zero talent, to get a book contract and a six-figure advance. Bravo, Plum Sykes.
Rating: Summary: WORSE THAN A BAD HIGHLIGHTING JOB Review: The cover is beautiful, the author's pedigree hopeful, and the first couple pages ultra-cute.
But that's where it ends. This book is a shallow and inept read. It's like having no-calorie water over a stacked lasagna for dinner. You have to be an air-head to enjoy it. the only reason i finished it was because my date bought it at the airport for full-price ... and it was a long flight. she also was sorely disappointed, claiming that bad writing is as easy to spot as a bad dye job!
Rating: Summary: Skip This One Review: I was very excited by the book's premise--love the title and cover--however the read left me short. The heroine wasn't easy to connect to. The Manhattan name dropping (legs feeling like strands of Da Silvano's pasta and eating a magnolia cupcake) became gratuitous. Did the author get a commission from Chloe jeans?
A few cute moments but overall disappointing.
Rating: Summary: Bergdorf Blondes is the BEST! Review: I loved this book!! If you like Candace Bushnell and Jane Green... READ IT!! I loved the story and thought it was cute and CRAZY! Plum Sykes is AWESOME!! I loved this look into Manhattan princesses lives! ( : Read this book because you will NOT be disapointed! ( :
Rating: Summary: Boring and disappointing Review: I wish I had read the reviews on this one and saved my money. I did read the whole book but it was pretty boring and predictable. I did not care about the main character at all, wondered exactly why she was a Bergdorf Blonde (it never explains where she got her money from). I heard they are making a movie from this book and I hope it will be more exciting. My advice is not to bother with this.
Rating: Summary: If you want to read fun, light chick lit... Review: ... look elsewhere. Bergdorf Blondes is boring, dull non-lit.
