Summary: Bergdorf Bombs
Review: Please save your money rather than buying this book -- say, for something more useful and enjoyable such as a colonoscopy or a DVD of Demi Moore in "The Scarlet Letter" (truly one of the worst movies ever filmed.) I'm all for fun, trashy reads to pass the time while at the beach, but this book falls way short of both characteristics.

After slogging through this book (it was the only thing I had to read while stuck in a waiting room for hours), I feel compelled to warn others not to make the same mistake. The writing once or twice reaches mediocrity after tens of pages of tediousness. The characters are defined by their tastes in designer clothes or hair color. The villian is signalled by his by his tendency to drop the endings off gerunds or any other word ending in "ing." Grippin' stuff.

Any reader with an IQ above room temperature will guess the ending by the time they reach page 5.

The only reason to recommend this book is if one is feeling down about one's life. The characters are so boring, so dull, so pathetic that, honestly, it'll cheer you up no matter how much of a mess your life is. One draws the cheerful conclusion: "Well, at least I'm not as tragic or insipid as the people in that book!'' However, that's only if you're not deep in despair from wasting a few hours on this garbage.

Summary: Really Annoying
Review: This book was totally transparent and boring. I did not expect it to be deep but other books in this genre (Sex and the City or any Candace Bushnell book) manage to be funny and intelligently written as well. The only reason this book got decent editorial reviews is because Plum Sykes writes for Vogue. But all they could say was that it was funny or charming. Yeah. Try insipid. I think "Moi" (Miss Sykes) is trying to emulate Cher from Clueless a little too much. Only, Cher was likeable. Come to think of it , I think this book is a bad "Clueless" rip-off.

Summary: I thought BB's wasn't supposed to be chick lit...
Review: Plum, I had such high hopes. I loved your piece on GPK and always looked at Vogue contents to see if you had a feature. I was so excited to finally get my hands on your novel. I wished for single-girl-in-NYC-liasing-with-PAPs sarcasm, wit and energy. What I got was a TOTALLY PREDICTABLE piece of chick lit quite in line with the usually boring, banal, BS of other chick lits. BB did display a bit of sarcasm, which I almost enjoyed, but all of the good stuff was eclipsed by the embarrasingly bad ending, which, frankly, is offensive to the reader. I want my four hours back.

Summary: Insert Your Own Blonde Joke Here
Review: If one realizes that over $600,000.00 American dollars were advanced to this English hack for this sort of dreck than one will better understand why the publishing industry is the mess it is today. Simply odious and obscene, in a totally boring way.

Summary: Bergdorf Blondes is Brilliant
Review: This is one of the funniest books I have ever read. I am glad Sex and the City has finished as it leaves room for authors like Plum Sykes. Good bye Carrie, Hello Plum!

If there could be more books like this my life would be much much more fun. It is glamorous and fun and is exactly how girls dream about their lives unfolding.

The only depressing thing about this book was finishing it. I have heard on the grapevine that Sykes has started a new one though. Hurry up writing Plum - I can't wait.

A hopeful Bergdorf Blonde

Summary: IS THIS LITERATURE?
Review: This is nothing more than an expanded magazine article written by a magazine writer. We've read it a million times before and it's just plain boring. I had high expectations (it had been recommended to me by more than three friends), but honestly I couldn't finish the book. It left me feeling like, "Who cares?" I should have donated the money I paid for the book to a charity.

Summary: Death of a dream
Review: While all the other girls read Seventeen, I spent my teenage years pouring over Tatler, wishing I could be Plum Sykes or India Hicks or Tara P-T. After the sheer obnoxiousness of Ms. Hick's glowed from every sentence of last week's New York Time's article, and this absolutely atrocious book, though, I think I'm going to become a neo-communist.

Hey, no one is going to read this book looking for great literature, and I realize that asking for biting social commentary is a bit much, considering Ms. Sykes's pedigree. But there is NO excuse for this book being so incredibly boring. And such bad writing! It sounds like a 10 year old wrote it. Perhaps this is a gimmick meant to show how dumb the main character is (unlikely, since we are supposed to believe that the main character studied Literature at Princeton) but it gets really old really fast.

Check out the Gossip Girl novels instead: much more fun, much more interesting, and even the most Princessy characters have some depth and evoke some sympathy. Ms. Sykes should give up writing and go back to watching her trust fund grow.

Summary: lifestyles of the rich and selfish
Review: Narrated by a faaabulous NYC blonde who simply goes by "Moi", this book follows the lives and loves of several women so selfish they can't comprehend that there is any other way to be. While this may sound like the premise of a tiresome book, the writing is so wonderfully ironic that you can get past all that and enjoy yourself.

Moi is best friends with Julie Bergdorf, the department store heiress, who, when bored, shoplifts from her own store and demands hair and makeup be brought in for her mug shot.

Such pampered little park Avenue Princesses -- women who enjoy being called 'princesses' and can't divine that it is actually an insult! Writer Plum Sykes -- a former contributing editor of "Vogue" -- is well aware of this world and brings it out in full force for the reader's enjoyment. The strategy to find a fiancee because apparently, being engaged is the best facial around and gives you glowing skin --- is ridiculous in theory but it doesn't stop many a girl from practicing it. Also starting a book club to meet smart men, then being horrified at the thought of actually reading a book (I was impressed that so many of the characters did it.)

It's very tongue-in-cheek but with enough bite because frankly, there are indeed people in NYC who live this life. Kudos to the author for finding the fine balance of writing a story about such people without totaly dissing or revering them.

Summary: catchy title, boring book
Review: what a boring, disappointing book.i love fashion, yet didn't want to finish bergdorf blondes i was that bored. i expected more from plum sykes as she's an oxford graduate and works for vogue. don't waste your time or your money, (...).

Summary: A so-so read
Review: I thought the book was good as far as shallow, girly books go. But not nearly as good as others. I never felt like I really got into the book. Some parts were plain boring and I was disappointed at the overly predictable ending. Not a bad book, but I would suggest reading Confessions of a Shopoholic if you're looking for a fun book.
