Rating: Summary: VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!!!!!1111 Review: I did not read any of the reviews before reading this book, but even with all the bad reviews I still would have read the book because I WAS a fan of Omar Tyree. This book was just really really bad. I read Flyy Girl and loved it, that book had so much fire to it and it was a true page turner, I anticipated this book because I wanter the same fire I experienced in Flyy Girl, boy was I disappointed. This book was also very unrealistic, how is it that in such a short time she managed to become a successful writer and a movie star with next to no struggles. In the book she talked so much about how she had to work so hard for what she had but it seems like all of her success came so easy to her. I found her extremely self centered and arrogant. I had to struggle to finish this book and I was disappointed with the ending. Omar I am so disappointed in this novel, from Single Mom to Sweet St. Louis it just keeps getting worst, what's going on with you? Before writing this review I finally read all the other reviews and it seems like almost everyone feels the same way, we can't all be wrong? You made reference to Eric Jerome Dickey in your book, well I suggest that you read some of his past books and learn a thing or two from that brother. I still have hope for you and I wish you luck with your next project but please please take some time out to plot your story and come correct next time.
Rating: Summary: A word to the wise. . . Review: I read this book and although I want to support my brothers and sisters I was truly disappointed. The characters were weak, the "you go girl" language tired and the story line a little too self-aggrandizing. There are so many authors out there who do not get any play and people like this continue to hit the bestseller list. As a college professor I try not to over analyze things but how can you not do so when Mr. Tyree hit's not only the Blackboard but the New York Times list? A word to the wise. If you would like to see African Americans at their best, I recommend Timmothy B. McCann's Always (A black man running for president no less) or his first novel entitled, Until... I also recommend Colin Chainner's Waiting in Vain (you will never forget Fire), Marcus Majors' Good People and Margaret Johnson Hodges' Butterscotch Blues. I know you may not have heard of these authors because they do not write books that exploit the WORST in us. Their books celebrate the BEST in us and for that reason they may never make the New York Times list. And that my friends is a shame. If you dont belive me, just check out their reviews here on Amazon and compare them to Mr. Tyree's. A word to the wise. We use to thirst for black books. Any black books. We have been blessed to have them. Now that we do, lets support the books that show the "US" we would like others to see in 50 to 100 years. Do you really want your children's children reading about trifling self-centered Tracy? Do you want them to think that this chacracter "Omar Tyree" was one of the leading authors of this generation? In closing, a word to the wise . . . . check this one out from the library. . . support the other authors I have mentioned and support words that show us in a different and insightful light. A.T
Rating: Summary: The return of the "Flyy Girl" Review: First of all, I would like to thank Omar Tyree for another well written novel. I have to admit, when I first started reading I was sought of confused because of the way that the chapters flashback. I like the way Omar wrote the book to help those readers who had not read Flyy Girl. It was very creative how the novel Flyy Girl and Tracy Ellison's poetry were mentioned throughout the novel. I found myself at times having to remind myself that Tracy Ellis Grant was not a real person. My sister and I shared the book and our own reviews and we both thought that For the Love of Money was a very well written novel because it did not follow the "normal" style for a novel. To me this is one of Omar Tyree's best novels. I would recommend reading Flyy Girl first before you read For the Love of Money.
Rating: Summary: Keeps me reading Review: I loved Flyy Girl. It made me realize that young girls really can do some things that you would never know or realize. Tracey was fast but we all learn from our experiences and that she has. Which made her the successful person she is, in FTLOM. I personally could not put the books down. I'm reading For the Love of Money and although it was not as good as Flyy Girl, it still has it's moments. I'm not done reading the book yet but I'm hoping that Bruce makes an appearance. Although you may not be pleased with every book you read, its good to know that we have successful black writers making a path for the next writer.
Rating: Summary: Disappointed!! Review: This book was the worse book that I have read. The worse part about it is that I brought it intead of getting it from the libary. SAVE YOUR MONEY!! I wish I would have.
Rating: Summary: HATED IT! Review: I ABSOLUTELY HATED THIS NOVEL. TO SUM IT UP IN ONE WORD, IT WAS "BORING!" I PUT IT DOWN AND PICKED IT UP SO MANY TIMES, BUT THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING THERE. I HAVE EVEN TOLD PEOPLE NOT TO BUY IT IN THE BOOK STORE. YES, THE AUTHOR'S REFERENCE TO HIMSELF WAS ABSOLUTLEY ARROGANT. THERE WASN'T A PLOT. HE TURNED A FABULOUS CHARACTER WITH A VIBRANT PERSONALITY INTO SOMEONE NOT WORTHY OF MY TIME AND ATTENTION. AGAIN, I HATED IT!
Rating: Summary: it wasn't THAT bad Review: you all act like omar tyree basically unecessarily killed some trees to make this novel. granted, the whole reference to omar tyree in every twenty pages was a waste, as was that smooth ride she had up to to the a-list of hollywood. but all and all, i was satisfied that she didn't end up with victor, because it was just not meant to be and to do so would be really contrived. my reason for reading the sequel was to find out what happened to (raheema, mercedes, victor, tracy's family, even kiwana), and i got my answer, which was what i felt was what was most successful with the novel. Whoever expected this to be a ralph ellison masterpiece, well that was you own faults for setting yourself up for a disappointment.
Rating: Summary: unique Review: I liked FG because it was different reading a story from the point of view of a young girl and a young girl's thoughts. I liked FTLM because of the unique way Omar Tyree wrote this story. The insertion of the poetry and making Tracy Ellison Grant a real person was different. I found Single Mom, A Do Right Man and Sweet St. Louis to be slow reads but I quickly read through both the books re: Tracy.
Rating: Summary: For the Love of Omar Tyree Review: Omar Tyree is my favorite author and has taken my breath away once again with this new novel.
Rating: Summary: Do they make NEGATIVE stars? Review: It can't be put into words. This book, no matter how many of it the publisher produced, is little more than a murderer of trees. Horribly written and with a nauseatingly unbelievable "empowerment" theme, the book drags on into...utter nothingness. Are we supposed to believe that the protagonist becomes rich and famous, writing for a TV show and movie after taking a simple writing class and doing no leg work? And Tyree has GOT to lay off that stilted, stereotypic "Giiirrrl, you crazy!," writing style that is the literary equivalent of nails on a blackboard. Tyree, I'm tyred of your second-rate pulp. Get a job.
