Summary: Too hot for me!
Review: This is the first of James Hardy's novels I've read and all I have to say is "SHEESH!" If it wasn't the extreme detailed love scenes that made me close the novel several times, it was the explicit language. Now I'm no Virgin Mary, but cussing every other word and pornographic sex scenes on every other page was a bit too much for me!

Summary: Very Jood!
Review: This is a very entertaining novel. It is yet another testament that love comes in many packages and who are we to judge. I am just about done with "2nd Time Around" and it's wonderful watching Raheim grow. Can't wait to see how it ends.

Summary: Down with this!
Review: B-Boy Blues was da bomb! I know not everyone is into B-Boyz, or understood the vernacular used in this book, but it was needed in a society where good black gay writers are rare and good editing of black gay materials is even more rare. I have read and re-read this book numerous times and would recommend it to anyone who luvz black gay men!

Summary: ... Book Review of B-Boy Blues
Review: B-Boy Blues was our December 2001, book of the month. It was about one man's desire to date a "ruff-neck". When he finally gets the perfect one (after several failed attempts) he ends up falling in love and Mr. Perfect is not so perfect. Mr. Hardy touches powerful issues such as: two people trying to work on their relationship, physical abuse/violence, jealousy, attraction to a particular type of person, gays/lesbians being "in the closet" and parenting.

The topics mentioned above sparked much member dialogue and at times became a little heated. On a whole, we gave this book 3 amazon stars. The feedback from the club ranged from disappointed to how the gay community was portrayed to disapproval of the slang usage. We commend all authors and understand the perils of writing, but Mr. Hardy's B-Boys, didn't make us want to run out and buy his latest.

Summary: You Go Boy
Review: This is a wonderful book. I hate romance novels but this book tells of a romance that was both beautiful and tragic. Raheim and Mitch were characters that I interact with everyday. My friends that are gay have a similar problem. Both are gay but the male in the relationship has a problem admitting what he is. Raheim has this same problem. He is gay but feels that by admitting who he is he is less than a man. Mitch knows who he is and is not ashamed of who he is. Their resulting clash made me cry. When Reheim hurt Mitch I wanted to hurt him myself. Buy this book it is a beautiful love story between two gay men. Even if you're not gay you'll enjoy this well written, compassionate book.

Summary: Definetly a "JOOD" read
Review: I read this book maybe about two weeks ago and it was a very good or should I say a "jood" read. The book is about two men who come from two different walks of life who just happen to fall in love. It also gives an understanding on what it's like to be gay and black in today's society. I'm not gay but I really enjoyed this book. Raheem is the B-Boy (bad boy) that Mitchell (sort of normal guy) falls in love with. Raheem has alot of issues that Mitchell has to accept and help him get through them in order to be with Raheem. On the other hand, Raheem has some ways he has to change in order to be with Mitchell. This book has alot of humor, tragedy, per the title it's seriously sexy and it's a wonderful love story. I recommend anyone read this book whether you are gay or straight.

Summary: unbelievable
Review: i'm sad that this is the quality of writing being offered as popular african american literature. i felt embarrassed, as if i was reading a pornagraphic harlequin romance. and the overt prejudice (basically, all white people are against black people) is just absurd.

Summary: A Damn JOOD story
Review: As one of the newest, youngest members of the gay black society, I have found this book to be one the best that I have ever read. I think it presents a great view of the relationships and social life that these guys in the story go through. I found it hard (no pun intended) to not get into the story--cry when Mitchell and Raheim cried, and feel the groove when they were in the club. Although it does contain many graphic terms and expletives, I had no problem looking around for the incredible story that it is. I do indeed look forward to reading the other two books! Email me sometime and we'll talk about it.
