Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: A quick read Review: This book is better than the first. That's because the action picked up as the story went along. This is a fun little adventure that moves along rather quickly.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Some mildly disturbing subject matter for younger readers... Review: This is one of my son's favorite series of books (he's 7). Part of the beauty of these books are their brevity--at about 100 pages they're much more reasonable for the 6-8 age group than the Harry Potter series. The illustrations are also wonderful. However, in this book there is some disturbing subject matter which was not encountered in the first book--specifically, there are depictions of cruelty to animals in both the text and illustrations. In the end, though, the Grace kids rescue the animals, and all turns out well. I feel it is still less disturbing than the Unfortunate Events books.

Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: WARNING TO PARENTS!!! Review: This series is intended for Ages 8 to 12 and this Book Two is TOTALLY INAPPROPRIATE for this age group. There is graphic cruelty to animals which is even depicted in an illustration!!! The bad fairies catch a domestic cat and roast it on a spit! Children will either be traumatized or intrigued by it - both very BAD! There are too many good alternatives out there. Try these series: Chet Gecko Mysteries, Magic Tree House, Secrets of Droon, Animal Ark Series, A to Z Mysteries, Box Car Children, American Girl History Mysteries and the 3 Adventure series - Island, Dive, and Everest. Also books by Eva Ibbotson, Beverly Cleary, Judy Blume, George Selden, E.B. White, R. Dahl, Estes and Eager.
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: Sequel No Better than Bad Beginning Review: This series may become absolutely terrific with the third or subsequent books, but I'll never know, I'm stopping here. The first book would have made a dull, badly written first chapter in a proper novel, and this second volume would make a dull, badly written second chapter, but I'm darned if I'm shelling out book-sized dollars for chapter-sized books. In this second volume, one of our main characters goes missing one evening, so the other two go out and rescue him. That's it for plot. If you're looking for a book to read to your kids during commercial breaks in American Idol, this is the one, and you'll be finished before Mr. Seacrest reveals who's been booted off today. If you enjoy lots of pictures, stories that are so minimal a stick of butter wouldn't have trouble following the plot, and insist on semi-fantastic content, this is your book. Everyone else, go out and find a real book to read. Note: a 3 star ranking from me is actually pretty good; I reserve 4 stars for tremendously good works, and 5 only for the rare few that are or ought to be classic; unfortunately most books published are 2 or less.
