Rating: Summary: A masterpiece Review: I have read this book literally too many times to count. i got it from my step mother pre release and over the past 4 years have read it at least once a month, yesterday i read it again and was reminded of the sheer amazingness. each read reveals new understanding. Sones really writes what it feels like to be a teen and to be "in love" and in love, i would suggest it for anyone who has ever had a crush. i really identify with sophie, shes not weight obsessed, shes not boy crazy, shes not a dramatic extreme, shes just a girl trying to understand whats around her.
Rating: Summary: What My Mother Doesn't Know Review: Even though the set-up of the book is a bit funky (set-up like a poem even though it isn't) it is a great read! This book takes you through the eyes of Sophie with her 3 loves Lou, Dylan, and Murphy (a.k.a. Robin). This book shows a lot of issues that most teens face some are being accepted, popularity, and girls who are boy crazy. Even though this book is strange sometimes its a great read! I recommened this for girls ages 13-15 because there is some issues which people under 12 shouldn't read about until they are older.
Rating: Summary: Best book I've ever read! Review: Even though the setup of the text is kind of weird, it was still a great book. it was funny, witty, and absolutely moving! What My Mother Doesn't Know is such a great book looking thorugh the eyes of Sophie with her 3 loves which were Lou, Dyland and Murphy (a.k.a.Robin). I don't want to spoil the ending so read it for yourself!
Rating: Summary: This has to be one of my favorite books ever! Review: I was never really a big fan of poetry, so when i saw this book in the bookstore, it didn't really look interesting. But when my mom bought it for me because she thought it looked good, i thought i'd give it a try. Now, it is my favorite book! You can't even tell it poetry, it just like a regular book but the author pressed enter too many times ;-)! i don't know if that is what poetry is, but i would definetely suggest this to my friends-poetry lovers or not!
Rating: Summary: I can totally relate! Review: what my mother doesnt know is such a truthful, light, almost fluffy story. it was a quick read (i read it in one hour!) and very enjoyable. the whole book is written in poems and i thought it was so cool how author sonya sones was able to illustrate this story by just poems that were so cleverly written! anyone can enjoy this totally relatable story about growing up, love and dealing with life as a teen.
Rating: Summary: A Great Read For You Girls! Review: The book What My Mother Doesn't Know was great. It is a fictional story about a girl named Sophie. It is a poem book written by her and it is like a diary that tells all her feelings, thoughts, and actions. Much has to do with school friends and guys. Mostly guys which are pretty much her favorite thing to write about. It was an amazing story. It was bluntly told with the same views as many teenagers have today and so it is easily understood by all. The book starts out with Sophie's breakup with Lou, an old boyfriend. Then she goes off on another guy whose name is Dylan. She meets him by sitting on him, which I thought was rather odd but lots of things are. Sophie ends up having to break it off with him a few months later because she had grown out of their relationship. She really did literally grow out of it too in that at first he had been taller than her but when she dumped him she was taller than him. That was something she really hated about herself she was always too tall and clumsy. On Halloween Sophie and her friends Rachel and Grace go to the school Halloween dance (Sophie was a beatnik). While there a masked man asks her to dance and she is blown away by him especially his eyes. So that causes a big problem because she becomes obsessed with finding those eyes. During Christmas break Sophie goes on a vacation and meets Murphy, a kid from school and they become friends. He is a real geek and gets made fun of by other kids in school; his name was even becoming a synonym for jerk. But they get along pretty well. I really liked this book a lot. After reading it I even read Sonya Sones' other book to see if it was as good. I think I liked What My Mother Doesn't Know so much because I can really relate to it and the title was what really caught me plus the girl's name is Sophie which is a pretty cool name considering my name is Sophia and Sophie is a nickname of mine. In this book Sophie is honest about all of her feelings and thoughts even though they can be a bit ironic and odd and what some people would say were much too old for a fifteen-year-old. I really liked Sophie's character and how she is sure and true and is able to deal with her parents fighting and things like that. She is also able to joke about what she hates about herself like how too tall she is and how her hair is totally mousy brown and limp and hates it so much. This was an interesting book with really unique and honest and funny writing. I think it should definitely be in the category of good books if not great.
Rating: Summary: Best Book, Like EVER Review: This book is about a girl name Sophie. It is about her and how her life is. It is writen in the poem style form, like Out of the Dust and Witness. If you do buy this book look at Ice Capades!! It is gross!! This is a good book and I recomend you read it if you are going into the 6th grade. Sophie is a well thought out character because you can relate to the promblems she has. It plays a movie in your head, you feel like you are there next to her. If you love poem style books or just want to read a great book read this book!!
Rating: Summary: Love was always right there in frunt of you! Review: Have you ever thought that love at first sight was really true? You look in someone's eyes and think you're in love, but you don't know the person one bit. Or you wonder who your true love is going to be, but the funny thing is that your love is someone you already know, and is there with you all the time. That is what young Sophie thought from the novel What My Mother Doesn't Know. Sophie goes through her days in high school struggling to be the best that she can. She wasn't one of those popular girls in high school, but she was still cool. Sophie had a heart. She did not care what other people thought about her. She was okay with herself; Sophie knows that she has wonderful friends by her side, Zack, Danny, Rachel, and Grace. But the one who she wanted more than a friend was Dylan. Then come to find out the most lowly and pitiful boy might become her soul mate? Even though his nose is crooked and his ears are huge, even though his hair's a mess and his lips are tight and scared, every time Sophie looked at him she wanted to kiss him? Will Sophie start following her heart? The novel, What My Mother Doesn't Know is extraordinary. I really enjoyed it, because it had great thoughts that made me think that maybe my soul mate is right in front of me. Once I started to read this I could not put it down. This novel is filled with love, friendship, and hop. That's the kind of stuff I love to read about. Sophie was a great character in this novel. The part that I do not like about this novel is that it was set up like poems. But I really thought the book was quite easy to read. I could read this book over and over.
Rating: Summary: Best Book EVER Review: "What My Mother Doesn't Know" was the best book in the world. It explains the drama that occurs in real life in poem format which, I also thought, was amazing. How Sonya Sones came up with such realistic poems for this book I have know idea but I can say that whoever reads it will love it!
Rating: Summary: Fun short read Review: I bought this book because of the title and my friend's fourteen-year-old daughter is already in a serious relationship with her boyfriend. As a mother of a seven-year-old I wanted to find out just what I might not know in the future. I opened the book and fell into the complex life of a young teenager today. Sophie is adorable, she is great and she thinks for herself. What I enjoyed most about this book is that the poems portray Sophie's diversity of relationships with those around her - the relationship with her father, mother, two best friends, boyfriends and even her on-line obsession. My favorite part is the end which I re-read a few times before I sent the book to my best friend. This book did not give me ammunition for the future when my daughters are teenagers. It was even better than that - it took me back in time to when I was young. It was a great read.
