Summary: What my mother doesn't know
Review: In this book, told entirly in poems, Sophie unleashes things her Mom doesn't know. She talks about boys, and everyday things a teenage girl has to deal with. I'm not to find of poems, but this book is awesome. Also, it's a very quick read. I finished it in a little over an hour.

Review: This book was a little dull, in my opinion. I read the entire book in about 3 hours. Part of the reason I read it so fast was because I couldn't put it down---I wanted to see what happened next! But when I finished it, I was left with sort of an empty feeling, like "That was a waste of a few hours."

The book was okay, but I've read better. :)

Review:
"What My Mother Doesn't Know" is a wonderful story about a young woman slowly making her way through life, love and upsets. The unique thing about this novel is that the entire story is written in poems. I'm not talking lyrical rhymes here, I am talking about heartfelt poems sometimes uplifting, other times hysterical. Sophie is the main character and she considers herself too "mosey" but relishes in the fact she has found a cute boyfriend, and an understanding cyber friend Chas. But things aren't so rosy as they seem for Sophie who suffers from a lack of self esteem and tends to obsess on menial things.

Sophie's mother suffers from severe depression and her father, who never shows any affection to her, scurries from the house whenever he gets a chance. Sophie's "diary" is filled with angst ridden thoughts and so much longing that it is scary how much I related to this book and I am 22 years old. She does funny things like secretly purchasing a sexy dress to a school dance and then has her mother pick her up while forgetting she is wearing the dress. Her mothers depression and addiction to soap operas leaves her unavailable to Sophie who wonders about love kissing and secretly lusts after the class geek Robin Murphy. They bond over a winter vacation in the Modern Museum of Art and at a special pond in the woods. Sophie must decide if she will reveal their relationship to her friends and schoolmates and risk alienation or keep their friendship completely secret. This really is a beautifully written book. Recommended. Another book I'd like to mention is called "The Losers' Club: Complete Restored Edition" by Richard Perez, about a poet looking for love. And the book is full of poetry, which reminded me a lot of "What My Mother Doesn't Know." Anyway, those are my recommendations!

Summary: Absolutely FABULOUS!!!!
Review: The second I opened What My Mother Doesn't Know, I was addicted to the captivating mind of Sophie. Every emotion she felt I've felt too... this book so strangely related to my life that I could not let go of the book in the entire two hours that i took me to read the book... not to mention that I usually read very, very slowly! I even started reading the delicious verses to my best friend over the phone and she laughed right along with me. Sophie perfectly relates to the teenage mind, and I am SO glad that I picked this book up off the shelf!

Summary: Very Good
Review: The book is very cute and exactly as I thought it would be. My only complaint is the margins are so large that the book is not long enough. I wanted more.

Summary: A great book!
Review: I loved this book thru and thru. I thought I wouldn't like it because it was in poetry format but I really did. This girl Sofie is funny, smart and so much like a teenager. Changes her opinions every few seconds. Love her relationship with her friends and the guy Murphy (Robin). Loved that she was Jewish but that the book didn't make a big deal out of it. Highly recommended!

Summary: What my mother doesn't know Review
Review: What my mother doesn't know is a wonderful book. It lets you know what goes through a young teenager mind when she and he is in love. Also how it's hard to be with someone and like another person

Summary: Waste of money
Review: I'm sorry, but I really don't see why so many people like this book. Personally, I hated it. It took me about half an hour to read it, and with the short poem-style writting, you can't get a feel of the characters or setting. My advice; go to the library and get any book by this author before buying any of her books. If you don't like her style, then I guess I've saved you a few dollars, which you can spend on much better litterature. If you like it, more power to you.

Summary: the best book club book for teens
Review: Although not the best for a deep, thought-provoking, inspiring read, "What My Mother Doesn't Know" is great for a light book to pass around with your friends. Mid-eigth grade my mother purchased it for me at a library book sale and after I read it, close friends did. Soon, the book reading had started a chain reaction around the classroom. Its enjoyable- the main character has alot of feelings that most adolescents have and it is comforting to know that you are not alone. All of my friends could relate to her, and the best thing is, none of my friends usually like to read. This book was easy to understand, written in interesting short poem-like pages (i'm sure that this type of writing has a specific name, but i cant think of it right now), and although it looks thick to some, about ten people finished the entire book (using the one copy) in under two weeks....and considering how unavid at reading these people were, thats saying something. I urge you to purchase a copy, read it and enjoy - perfect for a rainy day at home or a beach read - then pass it along to every young teenager you know! I promise you wont be dissapointed!
