Rating: Summary: This book would always build up your anticipation . Review: Basically, this book was about a little boy growing up in nature with his Grandmother and Grandfather learning the Cherokee way. Some characters throughout the story were trying to help L.T. learn some things. Mr.Wine would always for get he had something for Litte Tree. Little Tree always reminded him. This taught Little tree responsibility. Throughout the story there were some interesting parts and events. Even though there was cussing in this book of L.T., I did not find this offensive, but found it full of humor as L.T. and grandpa dealt with the people and events around them. Yes, I would recommend this book to a friend because, I would like for them to get the joy and excitement I got as I read this excellent book. Now that I own this book, I will probably read it again. I definitely give this book 5 stars.
Rating: Summary: The best book I have read in years Review: I cannot remember the last time I was so moved after reading a book. It's been years, possibly not since I was a child. This, too, goes to show the timelessness of this novel. I believe that anyone from age 10 to 80 could read this book and fall in love with it. I cannot recommend this one enough.
Rating: Summary: I loved the story Review: Forrest Carter - regardlesss of what he believed or how he lived - wrote a great book. The Education of Little Tree presents a unique way of viewing the world, for one sees through the eyes of a young half-Cherokee boy growing up in the Smokey Mountains of Tennessee during the 1930s. I found the book realistic, being often humorous and occasionally sad. The adventurous episodes of each chapter are written in lively narrative, and I never found myself feeling bored or disinterested while working my way through the book. Little Tree's often sage observations and received wisdom from his grandparents help make this tale instructive as well as enjoyable. I can easily endorse this as an excellent book to read
Rating: Summary: My all-time Favorite book Review: This is the only book that I have ever read that consistently can make me laugh and cry. Everyone I know personally who has read it has loved it. The Education of Little Tree is a book that everyone should read at least once in their life. It shows you things about your own life, if you are willing to listen.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely delightsome! How did I miss this one growing up? Review: What led me to this book in the first place was a review of the forthcoming video. It offered just enough of a teaser about the book's contents that I had to find out more. Not a long book but one I chose to savor - A few chapters lingering over my favorite coffee on a Sunday morning type of thing. Like Little Tree in the book, when you find something good, tell as many people as you can. My "first" copy has been given away to a friend on the condition that they will give it away to someone else when they have read it. It gently teaches lessons of the heart and spirit by drawing on a child's experiences and Cherokee wisdom. Though I missed it when I was younger, I'm very happy to have made the acquaintance of "Little Tree".
Rating: Summary: Not All I Had Hoped For Review: I had to read this book for school. I read the online reviews, and was all geeked up about reading it. However, I was a little disapointed in it. It is a predictable, a little too much so, for my liking. Unlike many other readers, this book didn't make me sob or want to up and move to the mountains to lead a life of obscurity. The back of the book says that after reading "Little Tree," one will never look upon the world in the same light. False advertising.
Rating: Summary: I laughed, I cried, it reminded me of my childhood. Review: I loved this book. It reminded me so much of my childhood. Days when things where sweet. No TV so we would sit out back a quote James Whitcomb Riley. I could see my grandma and grandpa as these people were. Mr. Carter will be in my heart forever.
Rating: Summary: Excellent work of fiction Review: It's not accurate. The author apparently wrote speeches for George Wallace and articles for The Southerner. The accuracy issue doesn't bother me because it's no longer touted as being nonfiction, and it's pretty obviously a work of fiction. The author's history does trouble me. I'm not sure what to make of it. It's a wonderful book, however.
Rating: Summary: An Excellent Read. Review: This book was the only book I ever read that made me sob out loud. Even though it was fiction, certainly one will find the book teaches universal truths.
Rating: Summary: "This is a good thing." Review: I teach Jr. High and High School English. The Education of Little Tree is required reading for several grade levels. (I also choose to include it in my ESL Classes/15 years of secondary and post-secondary.) I am also of Anglo, Spanish, and Catawba Native origin. I believe in goodness, love, and commitment to the family, all the good things in this world that make living important. Forrest Carter has given us many things to 'think about' in his years of writing. The Education of Little Tree is a novel that can be appreciated by those of us who want'the hate' to end. To paraphrase Grandpa, (Or was it Grandma?) "When you find a good thing you ought to pass it on." The Education of Little Treee "is a good thing"!
