Rating: Summary: it doesn't matter what you look like, but whats inside. Review: Little Tree learns that you just have to deal with the hardships that get thrown at you. I learned that just because you are different does not mean that you do not have feelings. The Education of Little tree was a well written book. It explained stories and ideas so that I could understand everything that it was talking about. This book made me relize that it does not matter what you look like but it does matter whats inside.
Rating: Summary: pretty good Review: it is a very nice book. i like that. little tree is learning everything from his granparents. especially when he learning about love. it was really wonderful love in the world. it was also sad in the very last chapter. why author has to finish that way?
Rating: Summary: Fake author and in-accurate, but still good. Review: A really good book. Even if the author was a KKK leader and wrote the "Segration now! Segration tommorow! Segration forever!" speech for George Wallace, the book is still great.
Rating: Summary: Sucks. Review: My language teacher made our class read this book last semester. It had to be the worst book I've ever read. It provided an unrealistic portrayal of the life of a Cherokee Indian, and I got the feeling that the author didn't do any research at all for this novel. Like most dumba**es, he makes the native americans seem 'magical' and 'mystical' like they practice wicca or something. the whole scene with the wilderness calling him home, and the trees singing to him was rubbish. it's corny and a waste of time.
Rating: Summary: Teaches lessons that everyone should learn Review: Despite the controversy about the author, I thought this book waswonderful. It will make you laugh, cry and think about the way people'smorals have changed from what is really important. When reading this book, I tried to put everything about the author aside and focused on the lessons Little Tree and his grandparents were trying to teach. In doing this, I not only read a great story, but learned a lot about how I would like to approach the world. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves the simple things in life. :)
Rating: Summary: A wonderful look at the life of Native Americans. Review: The Education of Little Tree takes the view of one young Native American boy named Little Tree who is sent to live with his grandparents after his parents are killed. His grandfather, an illegal whiskey maker, teaches Little Tree the ways of the mountains. Little Tree and his grandfather are faced with many mountain conflicts, both natural, and man made. This may sound like a usual juvenile native american book, but this book presents the actual problems that native americans faced during the pre-prohibition years. The discrimination represented in this book actually makes you hate your own race, which is a sign of a truly great book. I loved The Education of Little Tree, and I expect you will also.
Rating: Summary: A book with many emotions Review: I thought that this book was an excellent. While reading the book you feel as though you are right there with Little Tree. At some points you may actually feel like crying because of all the hardships that Little Tree is put through. The ending was a bit artificial, but overall it was a book that I reccommend for anyone.
Rating: Summary: Condescending and badly-written Review: This book made my skin crawl from the very first page. Maybe I was poisoned by the knowledge that the author is not a Cherokee and was well-known for his "less-enlightened" views; the worst part of this controversy is that he (or his agents) either conveniently omitted this information or actively tried to cover it to deceive buyers and readers. I found the tone and descriptions of people extrememly condescending, not uplifting the ideal of the "noble savage." An example is Pine Billy (I think) who is certain he will win a contest about his reasons for buying a brand of snuff. This person is portrayed as a buffoon who cannot possibly understand the complexities of the white society, a society which I believe the author thinks is superior even throughout this supposedly gentle and wonderful description of the Cherokee. This book is not worth the time to read on its own literary merits, and certainly is not worth the effort, and may be misleading, if the goal of the reader is to understand the Native American culture.
Rating: Summary: Horribble Review: The book, "The Education of Little Tree" is indeed a horrible book in my opinion. Whether or not Asa Earl Carter (AKA "Forrest Carter") was a "reformed" rascist is beyond the point. I think that many of the insights in this book can be, and are, taken in the wrong way. Nobody really knows what his views were on Native Americans, but perhaps, just perhaps, he had been reformed, and was wsimply digging deeper into his own black soul to try and justify what he had done.
Rating: Summary: Great book about nature wisdom of Cherokees Review: Great book about nature consiousness, Cherokee way of life. This book will change you.
