Rating: Summary: Not "Gone With The Wind" But . . . Review: I don't do romances. Picking this one up to listen to was out of desperation. After plopping it into my car's tape player, I was treated to a delightfully simple tale with an ending I wasn't expecting. No, it's not a prize winner as some moments seem not very realistic, but it's fun. Don't read to deeply into anything and just enjoy yourself. Heck, I don't think this is any worse than most day time soaps. If you want more character and depth, move along. If you want to get lost in a story for awhile, by all means have a listen.
Rating: Summary: Shallow and predictable Review: I eagerly chose the audiocassette version of this book to keep me focussed as I drive long distances in my job. Imagine my disappointment as I listened to Rosamond play into Tempest's hands time and again. I could not believe that Alcott, a truly fine author, had produced such a simplistic story. I was very disappointed at the ending also and just thought the whole thing was a bit too melodramatic!
Rating: Summary: wow! Review: I found this book to be fascinating and incredibly intense. Although it was written a long time ago, its subject is out of today's headlines-a romance that turns into a sick obsession.
Rating: Summary: A wonderful story about the pain of betrayal. Review: I found this novel by sure accident but I am heartily glad I did. One reviewer said the novel was predictable, but I thought it was sheer genius. I am not one to read stories that have a sad ending; I prefer happy ones that uplift me, but this novel did so despite the sorrow I felt along with Rose.
Rating: Summary: what a wonderful book! Review: I found this novel of love and deceit an appealing tale. I recommend this book to young readers who are interested in love and deception. The quality of this writing is dramatic and striked me with interest and curiosity. The fact that young Rosamond was trying to escape from a man who she thought she knew and loved was very thrilling to me. I found myself just dying to know what is going to happen to her in the next chapter. I just couldn't put the book down. Though some parts of the text confused me in some ways, because it was written such a long time ago, I was very interested and eventually understood what was going on. Also, the way Tempest was portrayed, as a mysterious and mystifying man was brilliant. And the way Rosamond falls deeply in love with him and how much she wanted to love a man was well explained. Though the ending wasn't the happily ever after cliché, I found that Alcott wrote the book well just like the rest of her novels she has written. I find Alcott to be an amazing writer with a wonderful imagination and style.
Rating: Summary: Mesmerizing and enveloping penmanship by Alcott Review: I have always loved Louisa May Alcott, so imagine my delight when I see this book on the stands. It is a serial that won't let you put it down. You fall in love with the antihero, even has he mercilessly hunts her down across the world. And my favorite ingenious part was the switch of identities with the dead body to escape him. Perfect ending. It makes you want to die with them.
Rating: Summary: One of the BEST books I've ever read Review: I just finished this book last night, 8 hours of laying in bed and I never wanted it to end. I devoured it like a rabid beast and at the end I cried like I've never cried before. I fell in love with Rosamond Vivian, an innocent, beautiful girl who doesn't give in to the temptations of the charming yet deceitful devil-like man she is still in love with. She forces logic to rule her heart while the 35-year-old Tempest grows ever-the-more obsessed with a selfish love for this angel of a girl who is the first one to ever resist his spell. He hunts her like a wild rabbit-- in a convent, a mental institution and all over Europe. He is cunning and shows up at the most incredulous moments (if it were a movie you wouldn't believe it) but Alcott explains how these impossibilities happen and it all makes sense. This book is intriguing, will have you breathless and literally on the edge of your seat, and will make you cry. If it's the last thing you do, buy this book.

Rating: Summary: THIS CHASE TAKES ENTIRELY TOO LONG Review: I purchased this book more than a year ago and put it on my shelf of things to read.
This book is the current selected reading of the book club that I attend.
I was thrilled to have the chance (reason) to read it.
This is not the worst book that I have ever read, and it does move quickly. However, I kept waiting for something important to happen.
Rosamond spends almost the entire story looking over her shoulder. Where is her spirit? At every turn she plays right into Tempest's hands.
She allows him to manipulate her behavior. I basically wanted to slap her...and I hated the ending!
Rating: Summary: an awesome book for ALL ages! Review: I read this book as a freshman in high school and loved it! I have always enjoyed ms. Alcotts books, but found this one to be one of my favorites. Rosamonds charucter was intresting and easy to understand. Phillip was easy to hate, but the way ms Alcott developed him made the reader want to like him reguardless of his flawess and evil side. I would recomened this book to all ages and genders.
