Rating: Summary: a bit of a let down... Review: I really had great hopes for this book, especially as seeing how my copy has a "Reading with Ripa" picture on it - indicating that the new co-host of Regis & Kelly had read it for an on-air book club. I thought that this would at least ensure that it would move along quickly. The beginning and the end had a nice bite to them, were funny and endearing. However, the middle portion of the book - about the middle 200 pages, were a bit slow, and at times rather uninteresting. The ending was sweet, but it seemed to end at a time where I was just regaining my interest. It seems to me that the author tries to cover too much ground and too many characters. She would have done better to try and focus on just a few. Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy reading this book - it is a light, fun, summer read. The last 75 or so pages did make me laugh out loud a few times - I just wish that the voice that the author had in the beginning and end of the book had continued throughout the entire of the novel.
Rating: Summary: For Better,For Worse Review: This book is a very interesting. It is about a woman in her thirty's whose marriage just ended. She is a single again and flying across the ocean to her American cousin's wedding. In Josie's mind "love stinks". But she never thought she would be seated next to a man by the name of Matt Jarvis who is a rock journalist, who just happens to be recently divorced himself. But that is all I am going to tell you about the book. In my personal opinion, this book was very interesting. I do not think you have to be a certain age to grasp the concept of this book. A few more things that I enjoyed about this book, was that you do not have to be divorced to understand it, or have a certain attitude towards reading. This book is like real life in a way. I typically do not have time to read books, but I made time for this one. When I would began to read the book it was hard for me to stop reading and put the book down. Josie was so funny in this book, I do not think the author instinctually intended for her to be funny, but she really was. I also enjoyed how detailed this book was. When the author had Josie explain what New York looked like, or her cousin's soon to be husband looked like, I got a visual picture. Those in turn made me like, and understand the book a little better. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to add a little humor into their life, or anyone who enjoys reading. On my reading scale I would give this book and eight. I really enjoyed reading it and it was hard to put down, something a little unusual for me to do with a book, actually read it.
Rating: Summary: Not Better Nor Worse Review: This is definitely a light read. It was entertaining throughout the book but it left me feeling like something was missing. It wasn't very memorable compared to others. I felt that this book was good but could have been so much better. It is good for those who have been jilted and feel that things couldn't possibly get better.
Rating: Summary: Not Too Shabby Review: I was hesitant to read this book after taking Kelly Ripa's "Bachelor" advice but found "For Better, For Worse" a suprisingly fun read. While this was a another rather far-fetched romance tale, it is interesting to note that the 350 pages covers only about THREE days of hectic adventure. As a NYC cat- and- mouse type game ensues, you follow the whereabouts of 5 wannabe lovers. Each of them on very different "love agendas"; Josie looking for new love with an ex husband nipping at her heels; Damien, the heel nipper, trying desperately to win back his one true love; Matt, a new found believer in love at first sight; Martha, more in love with the wedding, than the marriage; Jack, better to have love and lost than never to have loved at all (?)You can pretty much guess the ending in the first few chapters, but you know what they say, getting there is half the fun. This book takes a comedic look at the power of love. With very persistent characters, no NYC stone is left unturned until true love is found. True love is eventually found, but you have to wait til the last page to get there.
Rating: Summary: A so-so chick lit Review: "For Better Or Worse" centers on Josie Flynn who was recently divorced from Damien who cheated on her with his secretary. Melonie. Josie's self-esteem plummeted and started losing faith in love and men. Josie's cousin was getting married in New York and as the bridesmaid, Josie was flying to New York from London to attend the ceremony. During the flight, Josie sat next to Matt, a rock journalist who seemed interesting and promising. At the same time, Damien realized that Melonie was unbearable and that he actually missed Josie. Damien then planned to fly to New York to win Josie back. The entire book centers around Martha's preparation for her wedding. This book resembles quite a few of the romantic comedies out there where the two main characters always misses each other - for instance, just as Josie left the restaurant, Matt would arrived there. The plot is actually not very believable as both Josie and Matt seemed to "fall in love" despite only spending half a day with each other. This is the second book of Kelly Ripa's Book Club that I am reading and I must say it is much better than Carly Phillip's "The Bachelor." I would have given this a three and a half stars but since it is impossible, I am more incline to give it a four instead of three. The reason being, despite the predictable plot, Carole Matthews actually held my attention and the book was written well.
Rating: Summary: I REALLY TRIED TO LIKE THIS BOOK Review: I truly did. The first few pages were great. The Cat Formerly Known as Prince was right on. His antics mirrored my own cats' behavior when on the phone. The phone call from Josie's mother was fall down funny. But that's where it ended. Once she got on that plane to New York, this book slowed way down. The situations became contrived. Would someone so recently hurt by her soon to be ex-husband fall that quickly for Matt? Would Matt fall so quickly for Josie? And the way he treated Holly, the PR girl, was awful. Who would want someone who could use another woman that way? I kept with the book--there were some really funny scenes. I thought the parts about self-centered Damien were good. All in all, it wasn't terrible, but there are so many better books out there to be read.
Rating: Summary: For Better! Review: I think this book was AWESOME. I loved everything about it except Damien. But the fact that I hated him made the book even better. I wanted everything to turn out the way it was supposed to. I felt like I was there when all the action was happening. Carole Matthews is a guineus (though I am not because I can't spell the word). Awesome, Easy read!
Rating: Summary: loved it!! Review: This was a great easy read. Only 2 days and I was done. I just wanted to know what was going to happen next! I agree about the duck chase, could've skipped that whole part. Other than that I really enjoyed this book!
Rating: Summary: Loved it until the end Review: The book was great, funny, and interesting! I liked the fact that it kept you hanging on until the end and was still a book about romance. There were some parts that i could do without like the duck chase, but it was good none the less. The end wasn't what i expected though. I felt it was left unfinished, maybe a follow up book could be good!?
Rating: Summary: Engaging novel with some flaws Review: This book describes one of those love stories where everything keeps going wrong--the two main characters experience a series of miscommunications and mishaps that keeps them from getting together until the very end of the book. If that in and of itself wasn't frustrating enough, the storyline includes some pretty unrealistic twists: the female lead, Josie, is freshly separated from her husband and still grieving this loss while pursuing a new love; the male lead, Matt, is desperate to find Josie yet still becomes involved with another woman along the way; and Josie's cousin, supposedly having a perfect wedding, still begins having doubts when her ex-boyfriend shows up on her wedding day. Of course, everything works out in the end, and although you may feel frustrated by the impossibility of it all along the way, the ride is still fairly enjoyable.
