Rating: Summary: OH MY GOODNESS!! - I NEED A FAN!!!!!! Review: I got this book because a friend let me read her copy of The Lady's Tutor (goodness that book was hot!). Surprisingly, the story in the Lady's Tutor wasn't too bad and the love scenes literally burned my fingers turning the pages. This book follows some of the same themes in regards to homosexuality and hurt or dark pasts. However, I don't think this book had a many loves scenes, but the scenes where sensuous and more meaningful because of the developed relationship between Gabriel and Victoria. If you've read the other reviews then you know what the book is about. I'm writing as an encouragement to read the book. The middle was almost like it was filler rather than being something that added to the plot. It was filled with alot of references to "the second man", "the two angels" and "violet eyes". But..it DEFINITELY picks up towards the end of the book and the final scenes. The book is worth getting just for the scene where they finally confront the villain. I read that twice before I went on to finish the book. I should add that I did not read "The Lover" (buying a used copy)which I think is important in order to get the full effect. This story seems as if it is a continuation of Micheal's and Anne's story, and therefore did not stand on it's own too well. I kept wondering what I had missed by not reading "The Lover". Anyway, enjoy and good reading.
Rating: Summary: Her best book yet... Review: I have just put down my copy of GW, and still wipeing the tears from my eyes sat straight down to write a review.I have read all of Robin's books, this in my opinion is the best. I think she has developed her unique style, and each new book she writes improves on the last...it will be difficult to improve on GW though! This book is full of suspense, tension, and emotion, you really feel Gabriel's pain. He is a wonderful character. I like books to draw me in and allow me to really feel the emotions of the characters, this book does that superbly. Another reviewer said it wasn't easy to read...its not. You have to concentrate, its not the usual romantic fluff you find in some novels, it digs deep. In my opinion there is no one else comes anywhere close to writing such emotional, poignant stories as Robin. I can't recommend it highly enough...brilliant.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Review: I was a little apprehensive about reading this book after reading the reviews about it being as dark as the Lover. However the character Gabriel drew me to see if he could bury his past and be happy again. This is a wonderful book about the power of compassion, love and friendship. Although it is dark and sinister as the Lover, it provides a positive message. We all need to be touched and loved.
Rating: Summary: A Beautiful Book Review: Although I was a little disappointed by the "Lover", for some reason, I was anxiously awaiting the arrival of this book. Gabriel intrigued me and I really wanted to learn more about him. I'm so very happy this book came out! The chemistry between Victoria and Gabriel just.... works. They are indeed meant for each other. The way Ms. Schone breaks down Gabriel's walls is done with with such grace and honesty that it doesn't feel contrived. (Albeit very steamy and sexually charged....so be warned!) I appreciate how she doesn't just make immediate changes, but draws it out over time and really keeps Gabriel's feelings and thoughts in check. One of my biggest gripes was the overuse of "the second man". It really got old after a while.. and a little annoying. If "the man" bothered you in the "Lover", it might bother you in this book. I had to sort of ignore it and just keep reading. Also, Ms. Schone has a vague way of writing that keeps readers in the dark for much of the book. For some readers, it may be annoying to read through half of a book and it not making much sense. But if you're the type to sit and read through the book *again*, all the pieces will click into place and you'll have a much deeper understanding of her writing. On one last note, I have to agree with the prior reviewer about the angel story that Victoria tells Gabriel near the end of the novel. I was moved to tears at how beautifully it tied the story together and brought it to a close. By far, this is one of my favorite books just for the sheer satisfaction I felt from reading it. Happy reading!
Rating: Summary: ROMANTIC, SINCERE, EROTIC Review: While GABRIEL'S WOMAN can stand alone as an intense, erotic thriller, it is more quickly understood if you read THE LOVER first. GABRIEL'S WOMAN is a continuation of THE LOVER, although it is complete in and of itself. This book narrates the relationship between Gabriel (they say he's an angel of passion) and Victoria, a penniless spinster. These two people have spirits that the world has crushed and they both feel they have nothing left. Yet they find each other through an odd circumstance and experience an awakening and a wild passion together. GABRIEL'S WOMAN tells the unusual way these two meet and explains the sinister game in which they've been made to play. The villians are diabolical, the threat is real and the suspense is spine tingling. You won't want to miss this one, but read THE LOVER first.
Rating: Summary: Very Intense! Review: I loved this book! I had read "The Lover" a while ago and this was a pleasant surprise to find this was a sequel and dealt with Gabrielle his past and present. I found this book to be very intense. It looks at the dark side of Gabrielle's life and the healing that takes place for him because of the virgin who comes into his life and accepts him for who he is and was. This was a great book. Make sure to read both.
Rating: Summary: Spectacular Review: I was extremely impressed with the depth of emotion this book evoked. It is definitely her best so far. Both Gabriel's and Victoria's vulnerability were believable and moving. This is definitely on my list to read again to savor this great love story. You will not be disappointed if you're looking for a unique story, vivid & believable characters who are both vulnerable yet have a great capacity for love and forgiveness, all melded into a fast-paced sensual experience. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Can't wait for the next one! Review: I really enjoy reading books and novelletes written by Robin Schone. I often reread her books, as a matter of fact. However, in reading this particular book, I would have enjoyed more interaction between the main characters outside of sexual encounters. (The latter isn't a complaint.) The female character acts more as receptacle of Gabriel's agnst more so than anything else. The relationship between the characters isn't as fully developed as have been in previous books, I think. This lack, for me, is the difference between a rating of a 5 versus a 4.
Rating: Summary: Eroticism at it's non-titellating best Review: Gabriel's Woman is a wrenching story of love and redemption. Gabriel, a male prostitute trained to satisfy both men & women, seeks to forget his past by denying himself physical intimacy rather than suffer more emotional anguish. Victoria is the unwitting woman sent by his nemesis to further torment him with her own needs to be loved and desired. Together, they tear down each other's walls and then rebuild the other using first, carnal desire and then later, the power of bonds made stronger by love and vulnerability. This novel explores areas of human sexuality & behavior not presented in any of the mainstream "romance novels", yet it does so in a non-condemning & non-biased approach. The eroticism is merely "window dressing" for the deeper themes explored and worked through. Themes such as male prostitution, platonic relationships charged with homo-erotic overtones, "deviant" sexual activities, etc... The details are not presented in titellating & awkward prose; rather the dialogue between the characters is as sexually charged as the actual descriptions of intercourse. Put bluntly, you don't feel "dirty" after reading this book. Pornographic it is not. Sensual and erotic, it is. Ms. Schone's work has grown more powerful and disturbing with each new story. I eagerly await her next offering.
Rating: Summary: CLINICAL, NOT EROTIC Review: Great writing but the author portrays sex as cold and clinical. Maybe because the characters are not warm individuals. I agree with one reviewer below that Robin Schone is good at character development but sorely lacks in eroticism. The sex scenes doesn't make you feel warm and fuzzy all over. It's mostly clinical descriptions of sex and the male and female anatomy. The publisher again misleads the readers by selling this as erotic romance. There's nothing erotic about it at all.
