Rating: Summary: JUICY!! EXPLOSIVE!! Couldn't put this one down... Review: I recently read Michael Baisden's, The Maintenance Man and found that I couldn't put it down. I completed the book in 2DAYS!! It was just that good!! Simon, Teddy Bear and Malcolm are three men who, give us an upclose and personal view into their troublesome, different and oftentimes very complex lives. While reading you come to see how each of them values relationships, how their past can comes back to haunt them, what it truly means to be in love and the obstacles they must overcome to get the happiness and love they want, deserve and need. This book gives it all up. You laugh, cry, fuss and cheer as you breeze through it. While reading you get a feel for Atlanta, Louisana, New York and the various places throughout the book. You feel a part of the scene. Malcolm was my favorite I must admit and the most complex of the three. My heart ached for him as he struggled with his demons. Thank goodness he had his mother and Simon. Still there did come a point when he got what he deserved and I was glad about. What I found refreshing was the addition of Cythnia and Toni. These ladies really helped to add a little drama to the pot. Well worth the read and great for discussion.
Rating: Summary: AFRICAN AMERICAN GIGOLO Review: MAINTENANCE MAN was my first Michael Baisden book and I enjoyed it. It's about a young man, Malcolm, who makes his living providing sexual services to women who can afford them. The women who hire him represent a wide range of emotional stability. He seems to be doing quite well financially. It's all about the business until he meets the one woman who makes him want a more heartfelt relationship. Of course, he can't tell her the truth about himself, but it comes out in a painfully embarrassing way. From that point on, Malcolm sets about to gain redemption. MAINTENANCE MAN was about sex from a different perspective, yet it had a sad reality to it. Michael Baisden has a great future a novelist.
Rating: Summary: The Real Mainentance Needed Was on the Manuscript Review: I read "The Maintenance Man" after being told by a co-worker that the characters and story were interesting. I really felt cheated by The End. As a writer myself, this book reads like a clumsy first draft never rewritten -- even the editing is bad, with typos and bad grammar throughout. The characters are unlikeable, one-dimensional, and play true to stereotype, and the "love story" is never heartfelt it's never really explored or developed. Some of the sex scenes border on the soft-core porn side, and Baisden doesn't seem to care too much for women, as his female characters come off as either airheads or promiscuous. A badly-written novel not worthy of your time when so much more and better Black literature exists...
Rating: Summary: So realistic, so true and an eye opener... Review: I received my book on Friday, by Monday I had finished reading the entire book. This author is so outstanding! To have the skills and knowledge (degree or not) Michael really does know what he's talking about. He has made me hunger for more... I recently got interested in reading and trust believe I will buy every book he has every written and plus many more authors like him... His style is one I never heard of before, but enjoy so much. Some women and men may be mad because the truth has been told!
Rating: Summary: Getting on my nerves kinda-man Review: I must say that I really enjoyed this book. I was scared that I wouldn't because I really didn't care that much for Men Cry in the Dark, but I am a fan of Michael Baisden (every since his appearance on BET). I happen to agree with a lot of things that he says and writes about. In this book, I thought Malcolm was a jerk. Antoinette was way to good for him. Malcolm just thought that he was so much better than everyone else. And Toni was more down to earth. To me, that was a couple from hell. He did not deserve her;she was so much better than him. I thought the characters were funny. I really disliked Teddy; he wore my nerves, too. People like him are the reason that women call men "dogs". He was a DOG from beginning to end. He felt like he was immortal and nothing could touch him, but boy was he wrong. I think this book was really good, and I can't wait till the next one. Keep doing your thang Mr. Baisden!
Rating: Summary: The Maintenance Man Review: I really enjoyed the book, I read it in 24 hours and then my husband started reading it and couldn't put it down.. Excellent work... I look forward to reading more by Michael Baisden..
Rating: Summary: Get your darts ready and take aim Review: This was an interesting book, yet interesting I think is an understatement. The characters, just about all the characters in this novel were the most unlikable bunch of people I've ever read. Yet for as many times that I put The Maintenance Man down and decided I was sick of these emotionally disturbed, selfish brothas, and these ill moraled, money hungry, will raised their skirts for just about anybody with a Lexus and decent bank account sistahs, something, call it my own need to read about the sickness of our society, or rather the need to be entertained by it, made me pick it up again.Ok, let me be honest here, I dug the book, and I wanted to strangle the characters. Now would I recommend it? Thing is, I'm the type of reader that if a book is boring, I can't finish it, and if a book is not something I would recommend, I also can not finish it, so the fact is, I not only finished Baisden's book, but I still think about those whack peeps/Characters, roaming around in The Maintenance Man. Although this was not the most *well-written* book I have ever read, It was captivating, mostly because of how vile the characters were. So, would I say buy this book? Yes, I would, Michael Baisden told a story that is all too true, sad to say. But don't blame me or say I didn't warn you when after reading this book you feel like you want to drop kick the dudes and dudettes in The Maintenance Man. -- JDaniels
Rating: Summary: WHOA What a Book Review: I really enjoyed this book. I read in only a day. I think that the book was well written. The plot was a little predictable, but who cares because I would have read a mystery if I wanted to figure who was going to do what. The part that had me going was when the best friend ended up getting back with his girl after she cheated on him twice. This story is a book that I will recommend to friends and anyone who likes to read.
Rating: Summary: I kept reading only because I spent my money on this book Review: This book was so predictable. Everything that happened I was obvious. Men Cry in the Dark was much better. This book read as if it were written by a high schooler trying to be deep and failing miserably. I do not recommend it.
Rating: Summary: The elite women insidiously getting screwed and offended. Review: I recently read "Maintenace" and had to share the book with my son. He would read for 30 minutes and then I would read for 30 minutes. Finally, I gave up and let him finish the book. I introduce my son to Micheal Baisden two years ago because I thought there were somethings he need to know and after he finished the book or tape we would discuss the topics. My son Bam enjoyed the book. We both read the book in one day. I read some of the reviews and did not like some of the reviews. I think the truth hurts. I see this all the time. Micheal once again told it like it was. Women who think they are different because of their economic status; who are paying men for sex. Micheal told something he was not suppose to tell. This is Bam-Bam I enjoyed the book
