Rating: Summary: Worms? Review: Other things as well made this very unsavory. Tasteless. No romance. Just sex. And those annoying fingers again. Is the author fixated on finger-play? Same old plot again too. And full of these. Annoying. Short. Sentences that aren't sentences. Terrible. I'd rank it lower if I could.
Rating: Summary: Thanks Robin for pushing boundries! Review: I just finished The Lover. I loved it. It's a story about characters who are not 'perfect'. Sometimes even escaping into a novel to become the hero/heroine is impossible, because you cannot see yourself as the 'perfect' person inside the story. And I read to escape. I really enjoyed the dialogue. Throughout the whole story I was titillated at the questions they asked each other. And the timing of the questions was shocking AND perfect. They always carried the story into a deeper relationship between Michael and Anne. Their openness with each other was astounding, beautiful and an honor to behold. It was the hottest read of my life. I won't read erotica. I can't stand the coldness of sex when there is such beauty in making love. I guess my only complaint about the story is the history. Did their pasts need to be so dark? And then I answer my own question with a resounding - YES! Their finding each other wouldn't have been so beautiful without the past that brought them together and will help them better understand each other. I'm glad Robin was brave enough to see that and not compromise the story for the readers who will not recognize it. Thank you (eagerly awaiting the next one)!
Rating: Summary: Boring! Review: What a disappointment. After a great erotic novel like theLady's Tutor to see this flat effort is really disappointing! Idon't find Michel sexy--he is a whore for god's sakes and not my ideaof a fantasy! And the spinster heroine is a bit annoying. And there was way too much morbidity and darkness abounding to sate my fantasy quotient--it was all very distracting, boring and unerotic. ( )
Rating: Summary: Banana splits and acrobatic tantra amidst misery and death Review: Not exactly what I would call erotic. Sure, give me a good hot erotic romance, but put in lots of oblique, cryptic mumbo jumbo about fire, death, earthworms, The Man, and other things normally found in a Freudian melodrama and I tune out. No matter how many bananas got crushed or how many ping pong balls Michel stuff down his pants. Really, amidst so much misery and pain, it is hard for me to feel much for the couple. And when things are written in confusing prose and the characters as distant as Alpha Centauri, "The Lover" ends up more of "The Headache" than anything orgasmic.
Rating: Summary: Add this one to your Robin Schone collection ...I did! Review: 'THE LOVER' is another novel in my newly budding Robin Schone collection, I'm pleased to say. The erotic storyline is intertwined with dark undertones and suspense that made my skin crawl ...literally. It's a real page-turner and worth the read!
Rating: Summary: Second Best to LADY'S TUTOR,Better Than Most.....why? Review: Because Ms. Schone takes chances time and again. She is not afraid to go out on a limb and really give a different and maybe not so simpleminded view of what it means to love, desire and hope for love in return. The characters have flaws and demons. They have a not so easy road to tow as they journey towards a happy ending. Nonetheless, the reader is treated to a solidly good romance. However, reader beware: This story is not for the faint of heart in regards to sexual content. The story's sexuality is potent and heady. This however is not overshadowed by the complex and fragile love between the heroine and hero. I highly recommend this book to readers of Thea Devine, Bertrice Small or Susan Johnson. I also recommend it to people who are wanting something a bit out of the ordinary. ENJOY!
Rating: Summary: Dissapointed Review: After being deeply touched by Ms. Schones previous stories, I eagerly anticipated her newest. I am still wondering what "The Lover" was about, other than gratuitous sex scenes (and not very stimulating ones at that). "The Lady's Tutor" involved characters who suffered serious emotional traumas and overcame the difficulties to find a wonderous love. It was the most sensual novel I have ever read. In "The Lover" the characters seem unable or unwilling to make the effort to rise above their problems and almost seem content to wallow in their misery. I know that Ms. Schone has enormous talent and I hope her next effort is a story that makes the reader wish the book wasn't ending as she has done in her earlier works.
Rating: Summary: Very good Review: I ordered this as soon as I found out she'd written another. I read her story in Captivated and The Lady's Tutor, and I just finished this one. This book was well written and well worth the money. The quality of her writing is some of the best I have ever read. She, along with Brenda Joyce and Linda Howard are the best out there.
Rating: Summary: Good Review: This is the first novel I have read from Robin Schone and I found that I liked it, including the explicit love scenes. I applaud any author who has the boldness to write books which might be explicit or controversial. For those who had complaints, the book was specifically labeled erotic romance and while it did have suspense and mystery elements to it, many romances are like that and are still labeled just that- romances. Also, in regard to certain criticism about the scene at the end with the chocolate, it has to be understood that the heroine was under the effect of shock, adenaline and nerves. When you're body is under something like that, it needs an outlet and in this case it was sex. The only reason I did not give it a higher rating was that I thought their should have been more growth and development between the two main characters. At the end of the book you don't get a full sense of what it is the Michael and Anne feel for one another. In that regard, I agree with some of the reviewers out there. But all in all, not to bad. Hopefully we will see what happened with these two in the sequel, which will be Gabriel's story.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: I was really looking forward to reading THE LOVER, but I didn't think the book lived up to its promise. Robin Schone is a fine writer, and I thoroughly enjoyed The Lady's Tutor and her short story in Captivated, but this book just didn't do it for me. Maybe it was darker and more gothic than I expected. Maybe the abuse of the hero turned me off. Maybe I didn't feel drawn in to the relationship of Anne and Michel. I was looking forward to the next erotic anthology from Kensington in the fall. But now I'm not so sure...
