Rating: Summary: Not A Romance Fan Review: I am not a romance fan and I don't consider Jennifer Crusie to be a romance writer. Her books are fresh and funny and I don't know how she does it...all her books should be mundane, boring and predictable in the extreme AND THEY AREN'T!!!! I have all her books and I read them over and over. I laugh, I cry, I love them each time.
Rating: Summary: Jennifer Crusie Rocks! Review: I have to admit that this book is my least favorite of all the Jennifer Crusie books I've read. It was hard for me to get into this, but once I really made myself sit down and read it, I enjoyed it. The book was kind of slow to me and the characters were not as interesting to me as in her other books.I gave this book 4 stars just because I love Jennifer Crusie and think she is a fantastic author. I've read all of her other books that I have many times, but this one I've read only twice. (The second time was just to see if I was just in a bad mood the first time!!!) :) If you want to read a good Jennifer Crusie book, I would pick Welcome to Temptation, Crazy For You, or Tell Me Lies first. Jennifer Crusie is an awesome author. I would recommend her for those times you want to sit on the couch, snuggle in a blanket, and read a good romance novel!
Rating: Summary: Uneven Review: It must be said, right at the beginning, that Jennifer Crusie is a marvelous author. That said, I find her stories very uneven. Some of her books are marvelous and some seem downright silly. FAKING IT is in the latter category. In fairness, FAKING IT is a story well told. As with all of Crusie's novels, the writing is excellent. The allusions to classic films are clever and the background detail about fine art is interesting. I realize that, in romances and movies, the opening to hook the paying customer is required to be extreme. Here, the hero and heroine literally bump into one another while hiding in the closet of a house that they each separately are attempting to rob. This device of "meeting cute" is too silly to make the rest of the plot seem viable. FAKING IT is uneven at best.
Rating: Summary: Normally I LOVE Jennifer Review: but I couldnt even get 1/3 of the way thru this book. It never grasped me. For those of you who this is the first Crusie book to read, don't let this one discourage you. All her others are great!
Rating: Summary: Wonderfully Different Review: At first I had a hard time keeping some of the characters straight, but then I realized that many of them were the same person. After that, I couldn't put this book down. This is a commical read, with romance in its rawest form, and characters that couldn't possibly be more human. There is a touch of suspense, and a dramatic ending you won't want to miss.
Rating: Summary: The possibilities are there..but unfulfilled.... Review: I know Jenny will go nuts at this three star review..but that is how I feel about it. There are parts of this book that I like, and parts that annoy the hell out of me! Yes Yes Yes, there are too many characters. And there are too many song titles coming from the jukebox. And too many nicknames for our heroine alone! And because of the "too much" of this sort of stuff, there is not a lot of opportunity to really love our main characters. In fact, there is virtually no chemistry anywhere in this book. I can see how this book took a lot out of Jenny. It is work just reading it! What I DO love is the main theme--Tilda and the phrase "faking it" and faking it as a motif. And the couch. I could do without the jukebox. This device was just plain distracting. I love the whole art theme too. This is what kept me reading until the end. Never read Jenny before? Read her earlier works first. By that time Bet Me will be out, and I understand that this is a great book!!
Rating: Summary: Great Read! Review: Crusie is one of my favorites. Her characters are always complex and fleshed out, her plots are zaney and her situations insane. I loved Faking It. I found the story to be engaging, the characters fun, and the style was generally easy to follow. I recommend anything Crusie!
Rating: Summary: I love this book! Review: I love this book I must have read it at least 10 times! I can't really be bothered to explain the story that just ruins it. The reviewer who said it had too many characters I dont get. It wasn't all that confusing its not rocket science. It was entertaining but yeh I dont recommend it to young kiddies a bit on the saucy side at times.
Rating: Summary: Hilarious Review: There seems to be a big gender gap involving this book. It's clearly marketed toward women, and does contain several elements (e.g. fairly explicit sex from a female point of view) that would appeal more to women. Reading some of these other reviews, I notice a distinct lack of male readers willing to identify themselves and admit that they liked it. I have no problem doing so, because the book really is funny. The humor is of a somewhat particular sort. It's not a book marked by realism; the characters and situations are deliberately stretched a bit to suit the plot, not to reflect reality, and much of the book's humor derives from the way the characters accept what to us seems absurd. The characters present a multitude of memorable quirks, the dialog is often brilliant, and the author has a flair for enlivening even the simplest narrative with a witty simile or allusion. From the slightly surreal first sentence to a final scene in which everything both flies apart and comes together, it's a good ride. One final note: I hope nobody who complained about too many characters or two many nicknames never tried to read Tolstoy. Maybe Davy uses too many pet names for Tilda, but it's not really hard for anyone with an attention span to keep up.
Rating: Summary: intriguing! Review: This book kept me up way past my bedtime because I could not put it down! I will be looking for more titles by this inventive author.
