Rating: Summary: Uh, has Jennifer Crusie left the building or WHAT????? Review: "Faking It" was not at ALL Jennifer's style and I don't think that I liked it so much. This seemed too "detective" style for my taste.....While I did enjoy the Goodnights....I didn't like all the male intrusions in the book. Hopefully Jennifer will come up with something in her old style next time around.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: I have throughly enjoyed all of Jennifer Crusie's previous books, but this time she seemed to be just going through the motions (perhaps the title is appropriate). The story was lackluster, the romance was pretty bland and references to characters from "Welcome to Temptation" had little context. I hope her next book gets her back on track - unfortunately I can't recommend this one. Check out Manhunting for a classic Crusie!
Rating: Summary: BUY IT NOW!!!!! Review: FAKING IT is back to the WELCOME TO TEMPTATION tradition of humor, crime, and a little romance. I loved this one. It was fun, it was sweet and sour, (not as spicey as WWT). The humor was dark, maybe even twisted at times, which you'd expect from those Dempsey morals. The characters were neurotic (consider a household comprised of one forger, two conmen, one thief, one hitman, one depressed painter with a psycho cat, a sister with a [cheap] alter ego, her gay ex-husband and his absolutely normal, sane, and down-to earth partner, their daughter who keeps trying to date her career, and a matriarchal figure obsessed with double-crostics and a thing for tiny umbrellas). The plot was interesting and fun, think Audrey Hepburn and Peter O'Toole in HOW TO STEAL A MILLION. For all you WTT fans, Clea is back, and Davy Dempsey is soooo sexy! He can deal 3 Card Monte at my table any time!
Rating: Summary: Once again, Crusie is a hit Review: A long time Crusie fan I was thrilled to get her latest novel and relished the read. She did not disappoint me. I expect Crusie to write books with depth and layers of meanings. The title is fulfilled in all the characters and it is great fun to watch them grow and become free to be their reality. As in all Crusie books the minor characters are as interesting as the H/H. This is a book to immerse yourself in and giggle and purely enjoy. Another delightful romp -- highly recommmended; it is a winner.
Rating: Summary: Hilarious! Review: All members of the Goodnight family had secrets. The youngest daughter, Tilda Goodnight, was the one who took care of the family. She inherited the secret kept locked away in the basement of the Goodnight Gallery. Tilda had a past she would LOVE to forget. Before she could, though, she had to break into a house to steal back a piece of that past. It was during the theft that she met Davy Dempsey. Davy's family had a history of scams. But Davy had gone straight, so he said. He met Tilda in the closet of the house where Clea Lewis had been staying. Clea had stolen his money. He wanted to steal it back. He ended up joining forces with and helping Tilda. What he learned was that all Goodnight females were dangerous, if not crazy. This author is hilarious! This time Jennifer Crusie introduces a new set of wild and crazy characters. GWEN is bored and depressed. She "sedates" herself with Double-Crostics and double vodkas. EVE has a little identity problem. Four nights a week, Wednesday - Saturday, she gets all dressed up and becomes wild Louise. NADINE wants to help support the family. First she has to find a career that is legal, yet not boring. So we have three Goodnight females, or four if you count Louise, who are all a bit on the warped side, thrown together with Tilda and Davy. They are all out to con many people out of paintings by the deceased artist Scarlet Hodge, especially Clea. I could not stop laughing at this bunch of zany people! I absolutely hated having to stop reading so I could deal with reality. "A KEEPER!"
Rating: Summary: This book positively sparkles! Review: Davy and Tilda, Gwennie and her Double-Crostics, Eve and Louise, Simon, Andrew and Jeff. Clea, Rabbit, Ford, Michael, Phinn and Sophie. Nadine and Kyle and Ethan....not to mention, Steve! (Steve's the dog!) Each of these characters brings their own set of quirks, foibles and idiosyncracies to this story set at The Goodnight Art Gallery in Columbus, Ohio--just a stone's throw away from Crusie's previous setting of Temptation, Ohio. Davy wants his future back. Tildy wants her past back. Gwennie would like Aruba and Nadine wants a career choice. Eve thinks she wants Simon and Michael wants to visit his grandchildren--or does he want his daughter to provide him his next stake? Throw all of this into a book, add orange pineapple with a splash of vodka, doughnuts and muffins, not forgetting the 6 Scarlets....and Crusie has brought us one of the cleverest, light-hearted comedies that is a mystery and a warmhearted romance all in one!!
Rating: Summary: Crusie proves again why she's at the top Review: Okay. So I had a few minor quibbles with the book. Let's get them out the way up front. The secondary characters could have been developed more and the wrap up was too fast. BUT, nobody does it better. They don't even do it as well. This has the Crusie wit, the quirky but lovable main characters who don't have it all together, but you'd like to know anyway. They'd make great next door neighbors. Davy is second only to Phin as her best male character. I liked this book more than Fast Women. It isn't as dark. I always like the sense of community Crusie creates in her books, friends and family that are bonded together at the end. The relationship between Tilda and Davy really works, much more than Gabe and Nell in Fast Women. So if you forget about how Crusie could have fleshed out the other characters just a little bit more and focus on the main romance, you'll love this book.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Great! Review: I've been a fan of Jennifer Crusie for years and this book is absolutely great! One of her best. The characters are great - I really had no trouble keeping them straight; the humor is madcap and wonderful; and it was nice to catch up on favorite characters from Welcome To Temptation - just enough to know how they're doing. What a fun read! I recommend it most highly.
Rating: Summary: A light read Review: Davy Dempsey and Tilda Goodnight meet in a closet. Davy needs his money back, and Tilda needs her forgery back. Clea, a treachorous blonde, is staying with Mason, the owner of the closet. As Davy follows Tilda home, secretly, he ends up renting an apartment from Tilda's mother, Gwen. He then meets Andrew, Nadine, Jeff, Ethan, Eve/Louise, and so on. It takes a while to get the characters straight. And then Simon comes visiting, and the dog's name is Steve. Also, there's Ford, Rabbit, and Thomas and Phin pops in, and there are others. It says something when my favorite character in the book and most memorable one is Clea, the bad girl; I could at least see her purpose, and the reasons for the things she did. I did like Davy and Tilda, but their charcterizations were on the light side. Mostly you read about their attempts at a physical relationship, and their attempts at recovering their missing items. Also, there were the movie titles and song titles, and... This book had some really good moments, and Ms. Crusie's writing is very clever. But, I consider FAKING IT a very "light" read.
Rating: Summary: I agree with Beaverton's review Review: I've never given my input before, but I have to agree with the review by Beaverton. I fell in love with Jennifer Crusie several years ago and have been anticipating this book for some time. Please refer to the other review, as I agree totally, but do look forward to another from this great author. What's the one with Nell.... another like that!
