Summary: With so many good books out there...
Review: ...don't waste your time with this one.
The writing is unforgivably mediocre, the plot is painfully predictable and the characters make you roll your eyes in irritation. I'm sure the author wants this life she has created on paper, and hopefully she'll get it one day. But in the meantime I truly hope she'll just stop asking the reading public to suffer through her fictional wishings.
There are many well-written and funny and smart books out there (try "It's My F#cking Birthday" by Markoe, "Her" by Zigman, or anything by Eleanor Lipman). Search around to find one that won't be as disappointing.

Summary: Confessions of an Ex-Girlfriend
Review: A super-fun, light summer read - perfect for the beach, pool, or mountains. As a matter of fact, it would go great with a Cosmopolitan and/or a Tequilla Lynda:)

Having lived in NYC for 13 years and having my share of boyfriends (ex's too), I identified with it from start to finish.

TERRIFIC BOOK - A MUST READ.

Summary: Review by a recent ex-girlfriend incarnate
Review: As a recent ex-girlfriend incartnate (thus, justifying my recent submersion in "Chick Lit"), I thoroughly enjoy this book-- finished it in 2 sittings. This novel has the main ingredients for the typical chick novel: a humorous and resilient leading character (Emma Carter), her gay hairdresser friend (Sebastian), the uber-single-girl/femme fatale best friend (Jade), Emma's other bleeding heart best friend (Alyssa), and ofcourse, the neurotic parents. Other reviewers have critiqued this novel to be predictable, something I won't disagree with. It is utterly convenient that Jade is a bonafide fashionista who is ready to assist Emma on her wardrobe needs before every date. Despite this predictability (what chick lit novel isn't??!?), "Confessions.." offers a cynical yet, funny leading femme who you can often times relate to. Emma was a bit more realistic and likeable than other chick lit characters (like Good in Bed's Cannie Shapiro who was far more pathetic... but that's another review). By the end of the novel, you find yourself rooting for Emma and fiddling around the internet researching a prospective sequel to the novel. My only disappointment is the somewhat abrupt ending. She spends a great deal of the novel describing events in detail and the ending acts more like a brief afterword (she just happens to go on a date, fall in love and 10 pages later, BAM!, she's a new woman! in my edition of the book, there are even 5-10 blank pages left!). Nonetheless, the novel stresses the one lesson every ex-girlfriend has been advised and will wholeheartedly accept after some time: you will get over it. And Emma Carter does just that. As a reader, it's nice to find solitude in the fact that you are not alone when facing the trials of heartbreak, even when your peers are rooted in fiction. "Confessions..." does what a good chick novel should do: it entertains (without being overly annoying and leaving the reader with a toothache).

Summary: Confession: I loved this book!
Review: Chalk up another point for Red Dress Ink! Ever since being introduced to this new line of books, I will admit to being addicted. And while they are mostly predicable and breezy reads, sometimes you get one that is surprising and deep. Confessions of an Ex-Girlfriend is one of the latter.

Meet Emma Carter, Ex-Girlfriend Extraordinaire. After being dumped by her boyfriend of two years, Emma suddenly finds herself smack-dab in the middle of Single Girl-dom. And for a girl who hasn't been single for quite awhile, for a girl who thought she'd be married by now, Single Girl-dom is no place to be! But with the help of her two best friends, Jade and Alyssa, her job as contributing editor at Bridal Best magazine, and the preoccupation with her mother's forthcoming wedding, somehow, someway Emma will make it to the other side. Or will she....?

I rank this book up with my other favorite Red Dress Ink book, Dating Without Novocaine. Both were surprisingly thoughtful, deeper-meaning reads. However, Confessions of an Ex-Girlfriend did not clue me in on anything -- I had no idea where it was leading. Would Emma find a new boyfriend? Would she get back together with Derrick? Would she stay single and enjoy her new-found self? I loved not knowing the outcome, which made this novel a bit different from the rest. Highly recommended for all chick lit lovers.

Summary: Easy to relate!!!
Review: Come on Ladies!!! Haven't we all been there at one time or another??? Confessions of an ex-Girlfriend takes the world of "Coupledom-to-Newly Single" to a refreshing and hilarious new level!
Emma Carter is a 30 something Bridal Best editor who becomes single after her two year relationship comes to a halt. Emma loses it, and is driving her two best friends, Alyssa and Jade, crazy! Stuck with "10 pounds of extra relationship flab", Emma realizes that she has to face the truth about being single...and maybe there is more to her than being in a relationship!
Along with Emma's "breakdown", her mother is getting remarried....AGAIN, her father falls off the wagon.....AGAIN, her hairdresser found God, and her friends are having their own captivating adventures as well!
This NYC page-turner will have you laughing out loud! It will bring you up when you're down, and bring you back to reality when you are in that euphoric state of "Coupledom"!

Summary: Delightfully "NYC"!!
Review: Curnyn pens a lead character in Emma Carter most women will immediately recognize and embrace. Thirty, successful, but single, Emma is filled with self-doubt and angst. Her self-worth has become focused around her romantic relationships (or lack of them) as she tries to re-assess and re-direct her life after being dumped from a two-year relationship. Readers will be reminded of Bridget Jones as they read the first few chapters, but don't be fooled. This is no imitation! Curnyn quickly establishes her mastery of character development, tone, and setting, and this book is far from an imitation! Despite the sometimes neurotic, and always angst-filled subtext, Emma is never annoying or boring. She is delightfully "NYC". Thanks, Lynda Curnyn, for a fun, easy read. I look forward to picking up your next novel!

Summary: Really Enjoyable
Review: Emma Carter is a refreshing character- not overly neurotic just in need of refocusing and restarting her life now that she is an ex-girlfriend and no longer part of a couple.
Book opens with Emma newly single as her now ex- Derrick has moved to LA to launch his screen writing career. Emma is left behind - she has a job as an editor for a bridal magazine , great friends and a rent stabilized apartment. Dealing with how to get over that person you thought was your one true love takes its toll- I like that Emma is not a whiner. She faces her daily challenges and pulls herself up. By the end of the book she has re-adjusted her career track, begun taking better care of herself as a person and has things well in hand.
Not a sappy romance- this is a subtle journey that kept me reading and thinking long after it was over. I could really relate to her insecurities and issues- her family is interesting- and liked the way she had to force herself to get out there yet did so.

Premarital sex is pretty mild- nothing overly explicit. Humor is sarcastic and on the dry side which I prefer over slapstick. Characters are multi-dimensional. Her mom is a driving force in her life and really cares for her daughter without interfering overly much. Is nice to see one of these chic-lit books where the characters are not caricatures. I think that folks who normally shy away from chick- lit will be as pleasantly surprised as I was by Confessions of and Ex-Girlfriend. I look forward to reading more by Lynda Curnyn.

Summary: We've all been there...
Review: Emma Carter is an insecure 30-something who feels overweight and is newly single. Her mom is getting re-married, sort of taking her turn, her brother is hapilly hitched and her friends are single by choice or hooked up. After her boyfriend moves to LA without inviting her along, Emma faces the realities of the dating & dieting world, and an infirm grandmother who incessantly asks how her boyfriend is. A cute easy read.

Summary: Quick and easy one day read.
Review: Emma Carter is heartbroken when her boyfriend of two years decides to move to LA to work on his script. Nothing seems to be going right in her life and she feels like most of it is her fault.

Emma has been working at Bridal Best for 4 years and is looking forward to getting a promotion soon, but she is going to have to compete with Rebecca.

Emma's friends Jade and Alyssa are two woman who each have there own problems in life. Jade is not looking to date any man, but just have fun with them. Alyssa is looking for a little bit excitment in her life and thinks that she had found it.

Emma manages to go out on some dates, but nothing ever seems to work out for her. Till she realizes that everything in her life isn't so bad and that she just needs to go out and find happiness.

Overall this was another wonderful Red Dress Ink book. I can't wait to read more from this author.
