Summary: Best book I have read in years!
Review: Despite being unbelievably busy and distracted, I finished this 650+ page novel in one week. I found myself carrying the book into the grocery store and everywhere else just in case I got the off chance to read it for even a minute. The characters permeated my mind and the story stayed with me everywhere I was. I couldn't wait for the next moment to see what would happen and where Ms. Gregory would take me next. After I completed the novel, I began to research the characters and the time and was blown away by the level of accuracy and detail that went into the historical aspect. Right down to the summer of the sweating sickness, Ms. Gregory tied in the known history on every page. Her use of recent theories and assumptions seem to flow right from the truth. I'm not sure how any novel of the Tudor dynasty will match this one. A definite must read!

Summary: Awesome Book!!
Review: This book was given to me by a friend and I put off reading it for a while - it wasn't "my kind of book." Luckily for me, I started reading it and couldn't put it down! This is the story of Anne Boleyn and her sister, Mary Boleyn, and their drive to attain the King and the throne. But, it's more than that - it's a very well written history of the people and events of the time and is fascinating to read. There's nothing dry or boring about this book. Try it - you'll like it!

Summary: A beautiful, enthralling read!
Review: I couldn't put this book down. Although I'm resorting to cliches, this book practically read itself. In fact, I found myself scooting out of the office to read a passage or two. Based on the life of Anne, Mary and George Boleyn as well as the court of King Henry the VIII, The Other Boleyn Girl is a beautiful, enthralling read.

Mary, Anne's younger sister, is the enchanting main character in this novel. Philippa Gregory does an incredible job bringing her to life and transporting the reader back to England in the 1500's. This fictional account of Mary's affair with King Henry is as enticing as it is romantic. The Other Boleyn Girl's telling of the most celebrated and notorious romances in England's history is well written and insightful - not to mention mesmerizing.

From life at the court to life in the fields, The Other Boleyn girl has it all: love, adventure and intrigue. This is by far one of the best books I have read this summer.

Summary: Eye-opening
Review: This is a fantastic book. I read many books about Queen Elizabeth when I was younger, but never knew that much about Anne Boleyn. Though I originally bought this book to learn more about the history preceding Elizabeth I, I learned so much more about what life was like for women in the 1500s, specifically those in court. All I can say is - we should be thankful that our lives as women have changed so much. They may have had fancy clothes and jewels and lived in one of the most envied times and places in society, but all they really did was worry about their positions, do what men told them, and think about pregnancies all the time - it's so wonder so many miscarriages occurred when they were so worried and sad all the time! There was no happiness there. It's really quite sad. Anyway, this was a very eye-opening read and very engrossing. I highly recommend this book.

Summary: Brilliant!!!
Review: I am an avid reader of Henry the VIII and when I read this book, I was spellbound. I loved reading about Mary and all the hardships that she faced in her life. This is an excellent book and I would highly recommend it to anyone who loves Henry the VIII.

Summary: excellent book
Review: I found this book very inetresting, hard to put down, and it's characters so intense that I could see them in my dreams. This book is also an excellent history tutor for people like me who never developed an interest for it, now I did and I'm looking forward for the next novel by Philippa Gregory.

Summary: Entertaining but with some glaring historical errors
Review: Maybe the historical errors were intentional but they really ruined my enjoyment of the book. Mary was the eldest sister and she also went to France and was well known for her promiscuous behaviour there. I also found the way the characters of Mary and Anne were portrayed unsubtle. However, it was entertaining if you forgive the errors and well written.

If you want to read a good, well-grounded, _human_ portrayal of Anne then read 'The Concubine' by Norah Lofts. It's old, and you may have to hunt in 2nd hand bookstores but it's a great read and makes me cry everytime.

Summary: A good read.
Review: I do agree with some of the other reviews that the book could have been shorter. At times it is redundant, but it is never slow, so once you get past that, it is a good read. Gregory does a good job of describing the court life of Henry VIII and his first two queens. I thought the particular aspects of the Boleyn family that were brought in and played up were interesting, and bolstered Gregory's story, although some of these things were slightly changed from their (traditional) historic truth by the author to fit her tale. Hearing the tale of Anne Boleyn from her sister's point of view was fascinating, and highlights the tragedies that played out in the game for the throne.

Summary: Finally finished it
Review: I liked how it started, with the beheading of a relative. And details of court life were interesting, at the beginning, but became tedious with the repetitiveness. This book really could have been half or one-third the size, it drug on and on and on. Getting to the end was a relief, I doubt I'll read another book by this author.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: A Very Good Read
Review: This is an excellent story for fans of the Elizabethan Era.
