Rating: Summary: A Rose Between Thorns Review: Liz Curtis Higgs breathtakingly brings the Old Testament story of Jacob, Leah and Rachel to life in Scottish fiction. Higgs' brilliant storytelling transports the reader back in time, where it feels as though you are witnessing events first-hand. Higgs' story is filled with heartbreak and victory as her characters learn to trust God despite their pain and frustration. A spectacular read from beginning to end!!
Rating: Summary: A Rose Among Thorns Review: Liz Curtis Higgs breathtakingly brings the Old Testament story of Jacob, Leah and Rachel to life in Scottish fiction. Higgs' story is so masterfully told it is like being transported back in time and witnessing the joys and sorrows of the characters first-hand. Higgs' story is filled with such heartbreak, but such victory as her characters learn to trust God despite their pain and frustration. A spectacular read from beginning to end!
Rating: Summary: A terrific sequel Review: Okay, I liked *Thorn in My Heart* better, but this is still a wonderful book. I kept trying to figure out how Ms. Higgs was going to "modernize" (to the 1700s) the biblical story of Leah, Rachel, and Jacob and still make it ring true. She succeeded. However, I wouldn't mind her straying a bit from the bible story so that all of these characters could get their own happy endings. I like them all too much not to want to see them each find love. Hey, it's fiction! Indulge me.

Rating: Summary: Fairly Bad Is the Rose Review: This book is a big disappointment after the first one. How do you end the story when he has consummated two marriages in a time when it was unacceptable? He certianly would have not broken his marriage to Leana if he loved her. What values does this convey to the reader? I bet the end of the trilogy must have some wife swaping with the brother to top it off.
Rating: Summary: Amazing sequel and just a great book Review: This book was wonderful. I could not put it down (except when I was sobbing and had to get kleenex). This book is so good and I can't wait for the 3rd one. I've tried to figure out in my mind what is going to happen but guess I'll have to be patient and just wait - this book and Thorn in my Heart (the 1st in the series) are both great - highly recommended!!
Rating: Summary: She's done it again! Review: This is a wonderful sequel to "Thorn in My Heart". It starts off at the exact moment Thorn ends.....and keeps going strong. I could Not put this book down, even when I was sobbing my eyes out over the situation Jamie and Leana find themselves in.
Jamie grows up a lot in this book, Leana grows stronger in her faith, and Rose...well. I actually ended up hating her (although hate is such a strong emotion, but that's what I felt) by the end of the book. Leana handles everything with the grace I wish I had, even when things are heartbreakingly wrong.
I hate that it ended too soon - I can't WAIT for book #3 to come out!
Rating: Summary: Bound to be a classic Review: This Rose is now forever embedded in my heart. I felt a lot of emotions over her, identifying totally with her somewhat thorny, self-centered beginnings as well as her hunger for transformation. Leana comes through as very real, as Jamie and their hateful father. I am staggered by the research required to produce this level of authenticity. I can almost smell the kitchen, hear the noises in the house, feel the crisp, damp air, watch Leana mix her medicines, feel her wrenching sorrow at losing those most dear. I hope the world recognizes what they have here--a series worthy of becoming classics.
Rating: Summary: A Heartwrenching Journey Review: Very seldom do I feel such emotion when reading a book. From peaceful joy to deep anguish, I felt everything the characters did. It's a hard read, but one that makes readers examine their own heart. While I enjoy a book that ends in a neatly wrapped package, real life doesn't always work that way. The true story of Jacob, Leah and Rachel didn't either. Mrs. Higgs has used her God-given talent to bring us an updated version of the bible story and it's amazing to me how she was able to do that. The only problem I have is that I now have to wait nearly a year for the conclusion!
