Summary: A must read for those interested in the human (and inhuman)
Review: A totally graphic depiction of a yuppie by day, psychotic serial-killer by night. An insight into the dualistic world in which we live and the masks that hide our true selves. Once again, VERY graphic.

Summary: Does anyone know the chef at Dorsia?
Review: Wild, Intelligent, disgraceful, important. If you didn't like it I pity your inability to appreciate literature. If a book challenges you you in any way it is valuable. I think it must have something to do with that new hair mousse you are using. Oh - I am english and Less than Zero was an average book.

Summary:
Sick? Maybe.. but who are You?
Review:

The more I see reviews for this book that are negative, the more I laugh. It seems as though all but a few have missed the point - or are just to comfortable to rise beyond their every day happy level to venture to that dusty, cobweb infested "thinking" area of the brain.

This book is called amibiguous by many, however ambiguity is too easy a way to dismiss most of the novel's profound characteristics. The book is clear - there is simply too much information to take in from just one reading. This book requires an attentive reader because Ellis shows us Patrick Bateman's [relatively more] rational side in swift, small doses, although he tends to be repetitive as to the detail of our protagonist's habits.

Patty Winters, conversations over meals, detailed mutilations, clothes - these all serve as catalysts for Bateman's (in)sanity, which seems to fade out the further Tim Price goes away.

This book is controversial, no doubt about it, however you should do yourself a favor and read it several times (not too close to meal time, though) if for no other reason as to see what all the fuss is about. Ellis has a creative mind and this is a creative book.

[thanks to J.R. for introducing Ellis to us]

Summary: I want 3 wasted nights of my life back!
Review: I read this book when it first came out. Don't get me wrong, I love violence just as much as the next guy. That is, when it is presented by a writer with talent. I was not shocked by the violence in this book, just by how bad it was. I could have done a better time feeding my mind those three nights by watching television and drinking beer.

Summary: Boring and juvenile
Review: The none-too-subtle 'point' is made by about page two. Stop there and save yourself the bother. As with so much modern art, the trite message cannot disguise the lack of craft or passion. Interesting to note that the people who give this book '1' are generally literate and can spell, whereas those who give it '10' are clearly not.

Summary: Uncomfortable but Compelling
Review: A great read, I couldn't put it down. It fascinated me on perhaps the same level as the compulsion to see a bad traffic accident. I don't think that any reader can remain unaffected by this book and would highly recommend this novel. I do however add that this is one of the few books that I will be censoring from my children.

Summary: Controversial book nr. 1
Review: I think this book is great and I read i've read it several times since i bought it a couple of years back. One of the greatest things about the book is its controversial nature... just look at the ratings... either you give it a rating of 1 or a rating of 10.... That makes it interesting.... If it had an average rating of 4.7 it would just be another book in the pile... but this one has made an impact on the readers... Great work Mr. Ellis

Summary: It is quite possible Patrick lives in your city
Review: I have read this book about 15 times. Each time I read it, I discover some new details that make me love this book even more. The point is, "Patrick is the guy next door". He is your neighbour and he is your friend, but YOU do not know he is a psychopath. Brett Easton Ellis knows what turns us on. This book has the desires of everyone in it, whether it be the desire to screw prostitutes, the desire to kill someone, or the desire to eat at the best restaurants. There is no need to over evaluate this novel. Accept it for what it is, thoroughly entertaining, educating and GQ.

Summary: I have not read anything like it since ClockWork Orange!!!!!
Review: It has been a long time since I read a book that I felt as one with the Author and Characters. If you can stomach all of the goar and look into the eyes of Richard Bateman you will see how scared and week of man he really is. I found Richards' cries for help very disturbing because I could see how people who are all tied up in money and power could easley overlook these cries for remorse and help. I would recommend this to book to anyone of sound mind for it will not take long for you to question minds stability. I would like to thank Mr. Ellis for being a true rebel in every sence of the word. A must read.
