Summary: A Treat
Review: If Gore Vidal and Vladamir Nabokov had written a book together, "Christoper" would have been the result. Narrator B.K. Troop's every line and observation hilariously balances searing wit with wistfulness. Allison Burnett has written a brilliant first novel.

Summary: Bartender, Another Round!
Review: In B.K. Troop, the narrator of CHRISTOPHER, Allison Burnett has created the Holly Golightly -- in reverse -- of his generation. Picture the restrained writer character of TIFFANY'S the fascination of the flamboyant, chatterbox, charmer, and you have an invention that grabs hold of the reader in the very first paragraph and doesn't let go to the last. But to simply compare Burnett's work to that of Capote's is to overlook his effortless literary command. Burnett's is a three-ring circus of feats (part sleight of hand, part balancing act, and part car full of clowns). I'm told a great narrator is the bar fellow beside whom you would choose to sit and whom you would follow anywhere, down any dark indulgence, up any meandering tangent. Allison Burnett succeeds this way page after page, chapter after chapter, never once allowing his story to collapse into itself, skipping fancifully between sad, regretful mood and saucy, lighthearted tone. Not only are we compelled to sit beside his B.K. Troop and follow him wherever his heart leads us, but by story's end we are left thirsty for more, eager to buy another round.

Summary: Read This Book!
Review: This book captured me from the beginning. The writing style is so eloquent. Allison Burnett is such an amazing writer. I am so impressed with the way the story is written. The perspective he takes is so unique, and is done in such a clever way. I felt that I really knew the characters from the way they described eachother. I was absolutely sucked in the minute I started reading. I would highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone! The words are written so beautifully that the story just seems to fly by. I cannot say enough about how much I enjoyed this. I am anxious to read the sequel!

Summary: Bravo, B.K.
Review: This book is irresistable, I couldn't put it down. B.K. Troop is such a vivid character that I actually experience sadness when I realize that he is only a creation of Allison Burnett's imagination. As the narrative voice of the novel, Mr. Troop is at once hysterical and disturbing. Even if he isn't real, the world he coaxes us into certainly is.

Summary: A hilarious must-read
Review: This book is so fast, furious and funny that I couldn't put it down - read it in one sitting. This writer is a great discovery - brilliant, witty, erudite, bitchy, sarcastic and unbelievably funny; I laughed out loud at B.K. Troop's adventures and misadventures on the road to seduction; but was touched by B.K.'s discovery of the power of love. A must-read; hope Allison Burnett treats us to another book soon - perhaps a reappearance of B.K.?

Summary: LOVED IT
Review: This is a beautifully textured, deeply moving, and very funny book. My wife and I read it at the same time and both loved it. I am frankly confused by some of the negativity on this site, not that someone could criticize the book, but criticize it with such blind hatred and complete lack of fairness, and yet finish reading it! I have never in my life finished a book I hated that much. It makes me suspect a hidden agenda. Envy? Homophobia? A personal vendetta?

Summary: A bittersweet original
Review: This is a wonderfully bitter-sweet book, filled with both humor and genuine compassion for the characters whose lives it so profoundly and intimately dissects. I began reading, on the recommendation of my wife, without any great expectations - Burnett is after all a first time novelist. At first I was fearful that the jaded, self-centered attitude of the would-be seducer, BK Troop, might be the voice of the writer himself, and that the tale might be nothing more than a cynical series of failed sexual adventures. But I am delighted to say, I was wrong. Way wrong. This is a really great book. Through the diametrically opposed characters of BK Troop and Christopher, Burnett examines complex ideas about the nature of love, friendship, sexual orientation, ambition, integrity, innocence and idealism. And he does so with humor and insight. This wonderful, new literary voice takes you places that make you laugh, squirm and cry. But only if you are not already cynical, jaded or smug. I loved it.

Summary: A MUST
Review: Truly one of the best contemporary novels I've read in a long time. I love to read. I love to lose myself in another world. I love to be inspired by the characters and the story and come away more knowledgable and understanding.

This book is a rare treat, in a time when most novels feel thin and uninspired. B.K. Troop, our narrator, is one of the richest characters I've read in a long time. He is witty, acerbic, ultra-refined and tortured. We follow him on his journey of unrequited love, as he learns the meaning of friendship, love and compassion -- fighting these new horrible feelings every step of the way.
This book and its writer are both destined to become "one of the greats".
