Summary: You will feel pain, pride, loss and LOVE reading this!!
Review: This is a wonderful book! It very rewardingly shows a developing relationship between a pair of young adults, both guys. If you love "Coming Out" stories or perhaps thinking about either doing this for yourself or know someone who has done this, then you will be thrilled by taking the time to enjoy this book. It really is a quick read and plunges you through many emotions which definately make you feel like a emotional rollar coaster throughout. I am sad that I have finished it! Homosexual people will appreciate this book for the loving, thrilling portrayal of the characters and it will definately show the power of hatred and bigotry to all people, regardless of orientation. The setting has a strict religious aspect which is also fascinating, although I wished for a more confrontational aspect to the final scene between the Minister and his son, Tom. You decide... It brings a simpler, more respectful time to mind, but the love is, as always, timeless. Don't miss it!

Summary: Wonderfully Written!
Review: This is an absolute gem of a book. The author goes into great detail when discribing his characters. You can actually feel Tom and Joel's pains and their love for each other throughout the book. It's an amazing story with twists and turns that keep your fingers turning the page to find out what happens next. "The Blind Season" is the next book that continues their story. I recommend purchasing both of them at the same time so you won't have to wait. Ronald Donaghe is supposed to be getting ready to publish a third book to this great story called "The Gathering", I guarantee after reading this and "The Blind Season" you'll be as impatient as I am for the third book's publication!

Summary: just magnificent
Review: This story was simple, yet the issue was quite complex. It focused on two young men, Joel and Tom, who fall in love. Naturally, two males falling in love is never simple, and the complexity stemmed from one's refusal to accept his sexuality. Plus, there was parental disapproval. And frowns from a close-minded, gossipy community.

The story unfolds in the town of Common, and Common is as much a character as its inhabitants. Writer Ronald Donaghe took readers to Common, giving them a tour of the city, and its beautiful scenery and fresh air, and introducing the narrow-minded citizens who would never accept two men loving each other.

Donaghe also does a delightfully fabulous job of torturing the reader, by keeping Tom and Joel apart for quite a stretch. There were missed phone calls and disapproving parents. And when the two guys finally came together, it took my breath away.

They deserved it. They suffered for it. And I rooted for them. The common sons were not characters, but they were people who became caught up in a situation that is far more common than some people realize or are even prepared to admit.

Order this book.

Summary: wonderful characters
Review: This was the first book I read by Ron - but it wasn't the last! I really enjoyed this one, and was fascinated by Joel. He's one hell of a guy. I loved watching his character develop, as his love for Tom became stronger. I love happy endings, and I don't want to ruin this for anyone, but you won't be disappointed. After you read this one, check out Ron's other books, "Blind Season", "Salvation Mongers" (both in this same series), "My Year of Living Heterosexually", and "Letters in Search of Love". They're all good.
