Summary: Sad but provoking
Review: Tim Burton's style is so recognizable and you'll see it right away in the drawings of poor freak children and their sad tales. It's certainly like a child's book, being short and easy to read, but it's very sad and almost disturbing (yet sometimes funny.) If you feel like your life is bad and sucky, just read about these living birth defects and share their pain.

Summary: Typical Tim Burton: gloomy, sad and fun
Review: First, I'd like to say that I own a different edition of this book, covered with an old fabric, which add to the weirdness of the short stories. Anyway, if you liked '"The Night before Christmas", this book is for you: very sad, and yet funny, the strange kids' tales will probably remind you the caracters of the motion picture. Not to forget the marvelous illustrations by Tim Burton himself !

Summary: TIMMY!
Review: Phew....with that annoying Charles Addams, and that pesky Edward Gorey out of the way....make way for the new kid! But I jest! Obviously inspired by the talents of Mssrs.Addams and Gorey, with perhaps a bit of Edgar Allen Poe,Vincent Price,Danny Elfman, and Gahan Wilson...Tim Burton puts together his first collective of distrubing little stories for the goth crowd. Short and sweet, simple and tweeked, thus is his world, now and evermore.Revel in it,read it,but do not tarry for long, lest you become one of the stories yourself! Buy many copies of this book,so that he'll write more!

Summary: Bitter-sweet jewel!
Review: I was offered this book by a friend who surely knew I like Tim Burton's films. What a beautiful gift: these funny yet macabre little poems are just perfect!

Summary: Book for all fans of TIm Burton ond the macabre
Review: A must have for those who love Tim Burton's imagry. These creative poems remind me of Shel Silverstein, Roald Dahl and Dr. Seuss.

Summary: MUST HAVE for Tim Burton Fans
Review: What is better, the illustrations or the dark humored stories? You will have to decide for yourself. This book is cloth covered and makes a great gift (that is how I got it) for anyone of your friends who loves Burton. Not easily found in bookstores - so grab it when you see it. This will be worth some big bucks when it goes out of print. So, maybe buy two?

Summary: cabinet of dr. calagari for kids?
Review: only tim burton, roald dahl, and edward gorey can make awkward and cruel happenings this enjoyable. his drawings accompany deceptively simple verses that escalate to story after story of quirky invention and irony. each little story is like being let into a whole new world, some funny, some tragic, but all enjoyable. i handed this book down to my little brother, going through a difficult time (who *isn't* going through a hard time in jr. high?), and he treasures it. it's right up there as one of my favorite illustrated books along with "matilda" by roald dahl and "the tragical comedy or comical tragedy of mr. punch" by dave mckean and neil gaiman.

Summary: An Absolute Masterpiece By The One and Only, Tim Burton
Review: This book is probably one of my all time favorites. Theillustrations and stories are creative and 100% Tim Burton. If youlike his films, enjoy just looking at him, or have some amusement with anything Burtonish, then buy it! Its worth it! The stories are great and amusing, and some will give you a great laugh. Recommendation (my favorite of the stories) Mummy Boy, Page 77. Even if you haven't even heard of Tim, his movies, ect, you should still get this book! Its great, you won't be disappointed!

Summary: Good old scary FUN!
Review: If you are a Tim Burton fan, get this book. It's a collection of fun & demented poems about outcasts and outsiders that makes you feel better knowing you're not in their situations.

The book is oddly formatted. Some pages have like one line of verse and a picture on the adjacent side. The book looks like it is written for children, but I don't know if any kids would understand or enjoy it as a young adult like me did.

The illustrations gave me the creeps, but they didnt frighten me out of my skin. They are sort of fun, yet disturbing at the same time. I highly recommend this book!
