Rating: Summary: A Good Edwards book, but definitely no the best Review: I enjoyed this book, but I can honestly say that it is not as good as Gene's earlier title The Divine Romance. The depiction of Christ on the cross in The Divine Romance is much more gripping and edgy. While reading The Day I was Crucified, I felt like Gene was in a hurry to get Christ to the cross. Gene's other writings are notoriously more patient in delivery, and hence more dramatic. This book had the feel of being in a extreme hurry to get to the end.I would also like to throw in my two cents on several of the statements used here on Amazon in the above description of the book. I think they are a bit grandiose. I quote "The Day I Was Crucified stands out as literary excellence apart from virtually any books known in the modern era." That is a bit of an extreme statement to make from a book that is brand new on the market. Only time will tell this. Another "There has never been a more stunning, more heart-touching piece of Christian literature to be found in the English language as is The Day I Was Crucified." Who is writing this? This is rather self promoting if you ask me. Is it a good book? YES, but is it an instant classic? Hardly! As I said above, if you want to read a more dramatic depiction of Christ on the cross, read The Divine Romance by Edwards. It is a much more powerful depiction.
Rating: Summary: For Those Who Are Down and Out Review: I really enjoyed this book. When I started it, I didn't know what to expect. It literally kept me at the edge of my seat. It just kept on going. I seriously couldn't put it down, I had to know how it ended. It helped me, in my personal faith. It showed me another side of Christ. This book is incredible to me. It may sit there on the shelf, and people will pass by it. But then comes along someone who will see it, pick it up, look at it then buy it. Would it help them? It did for me. It gave me some hope in knowing that Christ gave himself up for me.
Rating: Summary: This book was a disappointment Review: There were many contradictions to the Gospel . The book describes the mother of Jesus as an elderly lady at the crucifixion . Mary was probably in her 40's . Mary Magdalene is described as stating that it is Monday morning and the Lord has been in the grave 3 days . ( Easter Monday ? ) On finding Jesus in the garden , Mary is described as embracing him tightly where the Gospels state Jesus forbid her to touch him . The Bible tells the stone was rolled away from the tomb . The author has Jesus walking through the stone . The author has Jesus and the 2 others crucified with him being hung on 3 different sides of the same tree rather than being nailed to 3 seperate crosses . This book was meaningless to me .
Rating: Summary: Great Christian Literature In Modern Times Review: This book was the first book I have read by Gene Edward. In fact I stumbled across this author by accident. My view of this written work is that it is ... powerful and moving. This is one of those rare life transforming books. The words written by Edwards have recorded the crucifixion and the resurrection in way that the reader will be ushered into unseen realms to witness the power of the cross as seen from the view of God the Father. This could be a book which could take it place among the great books of christian literature. Someone has recommended Edwards book called, The Divine Romance" And I will them up on that recommendation. If this review has not been enough for you judge, then let me say this, " This book will surprise you... and when you finish the book, it will surely become one of your yearly favorites to read. TRIPP
Rating: Summary: A wonderful, fictional account of Jesus' life Review: WOW, I really liked this book. Yes, it is fiction so some of the minor details are changed or fuzzy.....but the Message is there - and it is the timeless message of Jesus.....with parables, insights, and even humor. This is a wonderful peek into what Jesus might really say if He were to be interviewed.
Well written and easy to read. I highly recommend it for those who like Christian fiction.
