Summary: religion and intellect together
Review: Fox encourages us to use our minds with our religion. This is a great work. In it's time it must have been quite controversial. Today Conversations with God and An Encounter With A Prophet expand on what Fox had to say in the 1930's. All three books are a must read for independant thinkers.

Summary: Timeless concepts for living
Review: Fox presents the basic precepts of life in a clear concise manner. Taken from the teachings of Jesus it can be applied to any spiritual methodology.

Summary: A Breath of Fresh Air for the Non-Traditional Seeker
Review: Fox provides an interpretation of Jesus' teachings that rings true. For those who have found orthodoxy baffling and devoid of meaning, this book is like a cool drink of water. We are reminded that the way to inner peace is through the expansion of consciousness, rather than by the performance of ritual or belief in an institution. Needing a book to reinforce guilt or a sense of separation? You won't find it here. Instead you will discover a book that serves as a blueprint for joyful living and spiritual refreshment.

Summary: New Thought interpretation of The Sermon on the Mount
Review: Fox writes very well and it is easy to be charmed by this little book. He goes wrong, I think, in interpeting the Sermon of Jesus according to New Thought and Christian Science patterns. "Change your thought and you change your life". Yes-but only to a point. Changing your thinking does not change the physical world although many New Thought/Christian science people think that the material world is an illusion-a sort of projection of our own thinking and nothing more. Still, while not subscribing to this way of thinking, I did find some good insights in this book. Read it, be inspired, enjoy-just don't take it to the extremes that the author might like you to.

Summary: A long trip back.
Review: I am a recovering alcoholic. A few months back I went on an 8 day cruise to Central America. When the ship left the dock I was seized by a panic, I would be stuck on this ship, away from my support group in no less than a floating bar. I was up most of the first night. The next day I found this book (a friend had loaned it to me) and in desperation I started reading. By the end of the day my panic had passed and I felt closer to God than I had in a long time. I thought I had given up on Jesus many many years ago and that was the attitude I had when I boarded the ship. After reading this book I stepped on to the shore in Miami a Christian again, something I thought was quite impossible. This is a very powerful book. Mr. Fox sweeps away centuries of religious dogma and brings us back to the spiritual principals Jesus actually taught. I have read it several times since my trip. It has done nothing less than revolutionize my whole outlook on life and recovery. The right book at exactly the right time in my life. I pray it will do the same for you.

Summary: Beware
Review: I can't count the number of times I have read this book over the last twenty years. And I have given copies of it to a great number of people over the years. I'm buying another copy today for a friend, and one to replace the one I gave away recently. It is truly an instruction manual for a successful spirital (and material) life. If I could have only one book to read it would be this one. And I read a lot.

Summary: Book important to my early spirituality- 24 yrs. sober
Review: I consider this as spoon-fed spirituality. Was particularly important to my early sobriety/spirituality. I am 24 years sober today-Jan 1, 1999.

Summary: It made Christianity finally make sense--brought me back
Review: I could never relate to a literal interpretation of the Bible and original sin/fire and brimstone garbage. This is an explanation that makes the teachings in the Bible relavant to you and me- symbols are explained...i.e. Moses in the desert leading people to promised land symbolizes our own times spent in spiritual desert searching for full life. Also, the BEST explanation of the spiritual meaning behind the Lord's prayer. You must add this to your library!
