Rating: Summary: Absolutely Divine Review: I first heard about this book a year ago, when a friend told me to read it. I had been deeply depressed for some time, and this book just saved my life. It really spoke to me. Susanna seemed to be feeling everything I was and I came out with a deeper understanding of my illness. The movie was so faithful to the book, and I have to thank Winona Ryder for that. This book was so incredible, I read it straight through in about 2 hours. You must read it!

Rating: Summary: Girl,Interrupted rocked Review: I love Girl,Interrupted.I had been reading The Bell Jar and had been recamended it.I got more attatched to it than I had to The Bell Jar.I started to carry it around with me everywhere I went.I went nuts over it.I may be six years younger than her when this story took place, and I may not have even been alive then, but I felt such a strange connection to her.I felt like she had been talking about me.It was a little scary how close it came to my life.I really wanna recamend this book.Even if you don't have any connection to it at all other than you saw the movie or something, you have to read it.It's one of my most cherished books.
Rating: Summary: INTENSE CHARACTER STUDY! Review: Wow! Often a tough one to read. Very descriptive and intense. Similar in style and intensity to a male memoir I just read: PERAMBULATIONS by C.S. BACK. Give that one a try if you liked this book!
Rating: Summary: excellent... Review: I bought this book and wanted to read it before going to see the movie. I didn't know the complete details, such as the writer of girl, was in Mclean Hospital in Belmont, MA. I didn't know the whole story, and now I do. It was like reading someone's diary.. but better. Keysen's experience sounded similar as I have family members' who have been in psychiatric hospitals. I think they would benefit from reading this book. It was also interesting to see the point of view as the events were happening. I also think Keysen is an amazingly talented writer, and I look forward to reading her other books.
Rating: Summary: either its relation or insanity Review: Me, I liked the "smart-ness" of the book. I liked how the character picked apart things ... detailed them .. even at the boring parts.Descriptions were full and possibly over flowing with imagery. And maybe I'm slightly batty myself, but its hard not to picture some of the settings, people, etc. What I didn't really like were the interaction (or lack thereof) between some of the other characters mentioned and the main character. While I know its commone to in passing mention one person, and then go on about things ... but the way the people seemed to be described from the main characters view point, you'd think there would be a whole lot more interaction ... even if they were confined to the walls of an instituion .. or ice cream palor. I figure, after you finished reading the book, chunk for chunk, random character after another, descriptive paragraph(s) one and two; You're either relating and thinking, or you're cursing the author. It's definetly the type of book thats "to each his own."
Rating: Summary: Story interrupted! Review: I was very dissapointed with the lack of depth. The subject material was fascinating knowing that it really did occur, but it could have been a much more interesting read. I was left with a desire to know more about what happened to each character.
Rating: Summary: I RECCOMEND THIS TO ALL AGES! Review: I'M 13 YEARS OLD AND I WATCHED THIS WITH MY SISTER AND MY DAD I THOUGHT THE MOVIE WAS GREAT! AFTER I TOLD MY MOM HOW MUCH I LOVED IT SHE GOT ME THE BOOK, THE BOOK WAS EVEN BETTER I FELT LIKE I WAS IN THE STORY LIKE I WAS SUSANNA KAYSEN. MY OPINION IS IF YOU DIDN'T LIKE THE MOVIE OR THE BOOK YOUR CRAZY.
Rating: Summary: Been there Done that Review: Any one giving this book a negative review due to literary content or any other superficial agenda has missed the point of the book. These hospitals exist, unskilled programmers often run them, and highly intelligent capable people especially women frequently get misdiagnosed and misplaced into these institutions. Some women make it out whole and others buy into an idea that they are in fact crazy. I'm not a writer and am not interested in how well written this book may or may not be. I'm thankful for the story Susanna Kaysen shared. Although at times we may be self indulgent or even find flaws, how we choose to live with, define or pass them off does not make one crazy just because it doesn't fit into someone elses self serving agenda.
Rating: Summary: What a Disappointment! Review: I was really looking forward to reading this book - espcially since the movie previews looked good. Boy, was I disappointed. It was too short and never really had a chance to develop any meaningful story line. It started off interesting when she gets admitted and talks about some of the people at the mental hospital, but then the plot just stands still for the rest of the story. The book ends SO abruptly that you actually find yourself looking back three or four pages thinking maybe you skipped a chapter or two by accident. The author had the perfect opportunity to write an interesting and insightful story about her past experience in a mental hospital. Instead, she rushed through it and you really don't have time to care about any of the characters.
