Summary: An Amazing Look at Our View of Sanity
Review: I read this book for my graduate Abnormal Psychology class long before the movie ever came out. In lyrical and often painful prose, Kaysen allows a rare look inside a mental instiution and questions the diagnosis of insanity in a time when the world had gone mad. A great and necessary read for psychology students, as well as those those who are touched by mental illness or the mentally ill.

Summary: The Book vs. The Movie
Review: I absolutly loved Girl, Interrupted. However, I read the book before seeing the movie, and was very glad that I did so. Although I thought the movie was good, the book was so moving and wonderful. I HIGHLY suggest it for all ages, for it is a FANTASTIC read!

Summary: A Great Read
Review: I read this book in one sitting. There wasn't much fluidity between chapters, but that actually helps the reader to get into the mind of Susanna Kaysen. It was reminiscent of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, but through the eyes of a woman. I would definitely read it again, as well as recommend it to anyone.

Summary: see the movie and avoid the book
Review: i've never read a book that wasn't ruined by the movie version until girl interrupted. this book was awful. though i feel sympathy for the author considering the book is her life story, i was bewildered by the poor writing and lack of emotion. i was truly bored. for the first time, i'm suggesting others to see the movie and avoid the book. i never thought any movie version could be better than the book. but in this case it is.

Summary: An excellent read
Review: This book is really an excellent read, even though your own state of mind may come into question. A young lady that spends voluntarily 2 years in a mental institution and learns life at the "clinic" as she interacts with the other patients. While reading this book, the reader may very easily ask the question if he or she themself are of a sound mind, or are at risk for the same experience in a psychiatric institution. Another book that has helped my sanity and has made things clear to me, and I highly recommend it, is Dietmar Scherf's "I Love Me: Avoiding and Overcoming Depression" also available at Amazon.com

Summary: Read this book BEFORE you see the movie
Review: This is a book that can (and likely will) be read in one sitting. Gripping in an unlikely way; I could not put it down simply because it wrapped me up in its tale, not because there were any particular surprises. There is a lot more here than in the movie, and for plot purposes some things were added to the movie that never happened in the book. Although the film was an 8.5 on a 10-point scale, seeing the movie before reading the book will rob you of the joy of visualizing the patients and workers on the ward in your head, and it is interesting to see how the characters were interpreted on film.

Summary: I liked it but...
Review: I liked it but sometimes they jumped back in time and totally surprised me. Overall, it was really good. I felt for the author. It has to hard to be in a mental institution. And for 2 years? Wow. She must've been brave. But one thing hit me. Almost everyone has some feelings like theses people did. (I know, I know, not everyone wants to kill theirselves) but some of the feelings are feelings people experience everyday. So does that mean everyone's a little crazy... :)

Summary: MY SAINITY?
Review: "Girl,Interuppted" was a beatifully written book.The emotions and thoughts Kaysen expressed thoughout the novel made me actually have the urge to question my sanity. To see the world through a "crazy" point-of-view made me think about the reality that us "sane" people think is hard to deal with- How would we feel if we were "interuppted"?

Review: When I read this book I was amazed on how much truth to life lies in it. Even if I am a teenager,I enjoyed every minute of this heart filled and exciting book of insanity and sanity. This is a must read.
