Rating: Summary: The best Mafia book written Review: The details on mob life in this book are second to none, but I did not find it as emotionally involving as The Westies by T.J. English. Donnie Brasco is also a terrific book. But I was blown away by the realism in Pilleggi's writing. The book is even better than the movie Goodfellas, and that's saying a lot.
Rating: Summary: Very informative, inspirational! Review: Buy this book if some point in your life you dreamed, wanted to be a ganster, or a true gangsta fo life! This book gives you thorough details of what its like to be in a Mafia Family. If you've read the book then watch the movie, or if you've seen the movie first like I did, it's a whole lot different in the book. They made a shortcut in the movie so I suggest you read it straight out of Henry Hill words. A best buy!
Rating: Summary: Real Life is sometimes better that fiction! Review: Wow, heart pounding, a wild adveture ride in a real life tail of one who not only lived in the Queens Mafia, but also lived to out do his fellow family memebers. Nicholes Pilleggi is great, switching cunningly from narratioh to direct quotes from the mouth of Henry Hill. This is a must for all high school biogrophy book reports!
Rating: Summary: Grabs you and doesn't let go! Review: Hey, what can I say? I was in Chicago, waiting for Amtrak to show up, and I bought this book because it looked like it might be interesting enough to kill a half hour with. Five hours later, on the train, I was still flipping pages, totally hooked. Some schmuck said once that truth is stranger than fiction. Well, here's a news flash - it's more compelling, too. Henry Hill's life is simply more interesting and gripping than all the Godfather stories and movies combined; and I've always considered The Godfather to be one damned fine book. Hill's story tells itself, and Pileggi wisely adds little embellishment, allowing the reader to enter, through all of Hill's thoughts and nuances, the mind and life of a low-level Mafia functionary. In short, if you want art set against a backdrop of fictionalized organized crime, go buy The Godfather. If you want to be in the Mafia for a few hours, get this book.
Rating: Summary: That book is ILL Review: hey sup everyone just want to tell ya that Wiseguys is the first book i read in a while cause i actually wanted to read it. Couldn't even put it down. Rating: Summary: The BEST!!! Review: This book is the best!!!! The movie leaves out so much, that I wanted to throw the movie away. I read this book in 2 days not ever putting it down. IT IS A MUST HAVE!!!!
Rating: Summary: Unbelievable! Review: I read this book during the eight grade, we had 15 minutes of reading ti e each day so I was going through a phase where I was obsessed with the mafia so I got this book and it was the first (and last) book I actually read for pleasure. It was so great the was it described the crime and the genius it took to carry it out. After I read it I saw the movie and the movie was crap compared to the book. Everyone should read this.
Rating: Summary: Very detailed! Review: This is a book that puts an impression on you. It makes you wonder who really has control and who really has the power in this country. As always, the book is always better than the movie. There is more detailed information about Henry Hill's involvement with organized crime (compared to the movie equivalent 'Goodfellas') and it is very insightful into the lifestyle of the mob. Everyone should read this book.
Rating: Summary: Best Damn Book I Ever Read!!! Review: This book is far better than the author's "Casino". No mean feat as that was a pretty good book too. Recommendation: read the book, then watch the movie that is based on it ("Good Fellas").
Rating: Summary: fascinating Review: Wiseguy the true story of Henry Hill a guy who's been assoiated with the mafia since he was 13. A remarkable book. The best book ever written on organized crime. Recomand to anyone who likes reading or watching stuff on the mob, and to anyone who liked Goodfellas the movie based off this great book.
