Rating: Summary: A real page turner!! Review: After watching Goodfella's, I just had to read the book which inspired this movie. To say this book was exceptional reading, is an understatement! I could not put this book down. It was filled with facts that were not in the movie and I found myself laughing and crying as Henry Hill told his story. The end was very sad. Reading as Henry ratted out all of his mafia friends. I just heard about Henry Hill on the radio. Picked up with drugs. His wife divorced him after 20 years and I believe he no longer has protection due to his criminal activities. Anyway, my advice is to read this book! Excellent!
Rating: Summary: Very entertaining. A must read ! Review: This is a good book about one of the LSN's soldiers, from the Lucchese Family. This book is about Henry Hill's personal life. Why and how he chose the life he led for so many years. If you watched the movie Goodfellas, which was based on this book, you must read the book to fully understand Henry's point of view. Definitely recommended.
Rating: Summary: WHOO! Review: Rough....Tons of attitude...Killer...Cuts thru like dice...u can beat this book...thats why goodfellas had to be made...u cant deny this book is awesome and spellbinding
Rating: Summary: Wiseguy A More In Detail Goodfellas Review: I loved the movie so I loved the book even more because it gave even more insight and detail to the life of a mafia member. Basically it was a more in detail Goodfellas. I gave it 5 stars because of the detail and also it keeps you into the book with a story aspect as well.
Rating: Summary: Wise Guy is a more in detail Goodfellas Review: Wise Guy is a great mafia true life story. It is the book that the movie Goodfellas is based on. But the book contains much more detail than the movie. I suggest this book if you have seen Goodfellas and loved it and you want a bit more information on the life of a Mafia hoodlum.
Rating: Summary: the original mobster book Review: This is the novel that got me interested in reading about the mafia. Its engrossing from start to finish, and painfully honest throughout. I saw the movie before I read the book, and of course the movie differs from the book. If you've seen the movie, do yourself a favor and read this. Even if you don't like to read I guarentee you'll like this book.
Rating: Summary: wise guy Review: What an awesome book. What an awesome movie. This has been one of the best books I have ever read on the mafia.I have read about 4 or 5 books pertaining to the mafia so far. I find them to be very exciting.
Rating: Summary: Readable and Gripping Review: Pileggi's gripping narrative gives an inside view of life in the New York crime syndicate. Ex-mobster Henry Hill describes his 25-year career as a hijacker, arsonist, and thief. Hill and his associates operated via a combination of bribes, intimidation, crooked cops, and greedy businessmen eager for stolen merchandise (swag). Lest readers be misinformed, Hill's associates (if not Hill) murdered not just renegade mobsters, but ordinary citizens who got in the way. This book both glamorizes and attacks the swaggering, fast-money Mafia lifestyle. Hill entered FBI witness protection in 1980 after his bust for narcotics distribution left him a marked man for having violated syndicate rules against drug trafficking. Director Martin Scorsese turned this book into the superb 1990 movie "Goodfellows." Pileggi followed with "Casino," another fine narrative (and Scorsese movie) that investigates Midwest mob influence in Las Vegas. "Wiseguy" is a very absorbing and informative read.
Rating: Summary: What A Great Book! Review: I made the mistake of starting Wiseguy shortly after I had borrrowed a big stack of comics from a friend of mine. I had picked it up with the intention of reading only a few pages, a momentary prose diversion in the middle of all that sequential art. Did things go as planned? Fuggidabahdit. Once I picked up Wiseguy, I found it just about impossible to put down. One of the things that made Wiseguy such compelling reading was getting to see first-hand how a working-class kid like Henry Hill got sucked into the criminal world. We hear a lot of talk these days about how the media glamorizes crime. Could it be that crime is often, in and of itself, glamorous? That's certainly the picture Hill paints in Mr. Pileggi's interviews with him. I don't know if Wiseguy will go down in history as one of the great works of American literature, but if the job of narrative is to put you inside someone else's head, Mr. Pileggi succeeds admirably. I advise anyone with the least amount of interest in organized crime to obtain a copy of this book. ... .
Rating: Summary: "Always keep your mouth shut, never rat on a friend!!" Review: Comparison to the movie,I would have to give the book the better of the two! It's really simple,we have a young kid who happens to get noticed by Luchese family members and a crazy Irishman by the name of James Burke aka "Jimmy the Gent",he earned his rep in full by pulling hits and jobs for the neighborhood boss Paulie Vario a Capo in the Luchesse and others before him. See the book allows you to decide on certain decisions which Henry made and delves deeper into the Mob Familys of New York, along with more info on all the key players from the begining to the Lufthansa Heist and when Jimmy starts killing them cause he and Paulie do not want to split the money up too many ways, if you want a better understanding of the movie, read this version, you're questions will be answered..
