Summary: Great read for a long train journey
Review: "Eleventh Hour" was the first Catherine Coulter book I ever read, and that too only because I found a copy of the book for 75 cents at a yard sale. I thought: well, why not just try it?

In short, this book is no work of literature. The dialogue is wooden, the character development was worse, and all the emotions of the main characters seemed forced. I must say, though, that what hooked me onto this book in the first place, were the introductory chapters, especially the confrontation between the priest and his murderer in the confessional. The book doesn't hold up much after that.

My other main complaint is the "romance" between Dane Carver and Nick. I have a feeling that Coulter was going for something steamy and erotic, but what she ended up with was something totally unpassionate and even gross- what with all the 'biting'!

On the other hand, if you don't expect too much, what you have is a novel with a fairly good plot- even some twists which I didn't see coming- and a fast paced atmosphere which keeps you going till the end. It's not worth the 25 dollars, but it's a nice quick read on the subway, or in the airport lounge, or on an incredibly long line at the supermarket.

Summary: A Very Disappointing Book!
Review: After attempting to read The Target a few months ago, I decided not to waste my money on another Coulter mystery. However, because the cover of Eleventh Hour looked interesting and past books were by Coulter were enjoyable reads (The Maze), I bought the book. I was not able to finish it---and I certainly won't inflict this book on a friend! The characters were weak and one dimensional and the dialogue was stilted, silly and unrealistic. Please, Ms. Coulter--re-read your older books and find out what you're missing now!!

Summary: I Really Tried To Like This Book
Review: After reading the story description on the book's jacket, I was truly looking forward to reading this story. However, the more I read, the more I became disappointed with these one dimensional characters and unbelievable coincidences. Two of these incidents occured twice in the story during plot twist, which made me really wish the author had given more thought.

Summary: This is my last by this author
Review: Coulter has always been a real hit and miss author for me, but I threw this book down in disgust and I'll never buy another of hers. I know she can write--I've read evidence of that. So there's no excuse but laziness to put out this...tripe. The characters are flat, the dialogue made me laugh out loud--it was so incredibly lame. She gives romantic suspense a bad bad name.

Summary: A Yawner
Review: Every week I read the NY Times book review and recognize that the same authors always have books on the list. I seldom read these authors [except Grisham] but if everyone else is reading them I figured there had to be something there. So I selected a Catherine Coulter novel and settled in.

What I found was a plot that moved along but trite dialog and unimaginative characters. Dane is an FBI agent whose priest twin brother is murdered during a confession. Dane teams up with a supposed street girl named Nick. The cop dialog is simple and the technical details fairly accurate.

Very predictable. It appears that this is a formula book. One that will be printed again with different character names, a twist in the plot and a different setting and reprinted under a different title. It will probably sell another half a million copies.

Summary: Really good and fast paced
Review: Excellent story and narration. Though I personally was annoyed with Nic's voice but, the narrator was able to distinguish the different characters easily so I could follow the story.

In the 11th hour Catherine Coulter is back to a good story line and interesting story like the Maze. In this story Agent Dane Carver's twin brother is brutally shot while in the confessional. And there was a witness that called it in but who is also scared out of her mind. Dane immediately rushes to San Francisco to see if he can find out what happened to his brother.

Nic is the homeless woman who finally decided she must turn herself in to see if she can help. She is also the one who figures out that the killing is following the pattern and script of a new TV show.

Nic has her own demons she is running from and even trying to avoid a murderer.

Savich and Sherlock come to help along the investigation when it is determined that there is a serial killer on the loose.

Many different story lines that all tie together kept the story moving along at a fast pace!

Summary: A Toss Up
Review: Father Michael Joseph Carver is murdered while hearing the late night confession of a murderer. Unknown to the murderer, a young homeless woman was waiting in the shadows of the church to speak with Fr. Carver and witnessed the murderer's exit from the confessional. The woman is Nicola (Nick) Jones who is on the run from a mysterious past and who does not wish to be connected with Fr. Carver's murder. Fr. Carver's twin brother, FBI Special Agent Dane Carver, is working with the local police to find his brothers killer. Dane personally takes Nick into protective custody when it becomes apparent that someone is trying to kill Nick. They discover that the killer is using the scripts of a popular television show to commit the murders. Dane calls in fellow FBI agents, Dillon and Sherlock Savitch to assist him in keeping Nick alive and finding the killer.

This is the first Catherine Coulter book I have read. The story line is good and there are multiple mysteries going on at the same time that kept me interested and guessing until the end. However, the interaction between the weakly built characters was astoundingly trite. The dialogue was embarrassingly silly and amateurish. It remains a toss up as to whether the plot and story line are good enough to offset the characters and the dialogue.

Summary: Coulter's best book yet!
Review: Father Michael Joseph had heard many confessions but none like the one he heard from a madman bragging about murdering two people. Within minutes of the twisted confession, Father Michael Joseph is lying on the ground with a bullet in his head.

Nicola "Nick" Jones is a homeless woman running from her past, and as bad luck would have it she was in the church the night Father Michael Joseph was killed. Nick was hiding in the shadows so she is sure the killer didn't see her, but fear has kept her from coming forward, until now.

Dane Carver is the identical twin to Father Michael, he is also an FBI agent, so he teams with fellow agents and friends Savich and Sherlock, to track down the killer. Dane's search will take him through the seedy streets of San Francisco, to the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, and with the help of the homeless woman Nick Jones he may bring a madman to justice, if Nick's past doesn't catch up to them first.

'Eleventh Hour' is another action-packed thriller by an author who gets better with each new novel. Starting off fast, the pages practically turn themselves as the reader uncovers each clue in this intricately plotted thriller. Savich and Sherlock are familiar faces that readers will welcome back, and the juggling of plots concerning Nick Jones and Dane Carver keeps readers on the edge of their seat awaiting the next surprise.

Catherine Coulter is a master of plotting; her novels are always original, well-written, peopled with interesting characters, and super fast-paced. With each new novel Ms. Coulter surpasses her previous work, proving she is at the top of her craft, and she can only get better.

This MUST read is headed for the top of the best-seller list's.

Summary: Not up to Coulter's standards
Review: Having read many of Coulter's books, I would not recommend this one as a must read. The plot was actually pretty well devised. However, the dialogue was incredibly unrealistic and the characters were not at all well developed. The protagonists had no depth and that, in turn, had a negative effect on the plot. I expect more from Catherine Coulter.

Summary: Middle of the Road
Review: I am a fan of Catherine Coulter and have read all of her FBI thrillers. Although her story lines are always great I find her conversational writing to be a bit stilted. This was the worst. I enjoyed the story line and the inter-twining of the two murder plots and felt they were fairly well thought out. The motorcycle scene was far fetched. The killer had to be the worst shot in the history of mystery novels. Also, the conversation between characters was extremely trite, silly and childish - more so than usual.

And to add one more sore spot, she added a new character at the end as the actual murderer going after Nick. I had to go back through the book to see if I missed something. I didn't. I had a pretty good idea who was after Nick but the actual shooter was a new character who was completely undeveloped.

I recommend reading the book but buy it used, get it from the library, or wait for the paperback. You won't want to keep it to read again later or spend a lot of money on the hardback.
