Rating: Summary: Pretty decent overall Review: very entertaining, wouldn't buy this one in hardcover but it was a fun read. Tad bit predictable but nice characters.
Rating: Summary: Child delivers Again Review: Third in the Jack Reacher series. I really enjoyed this addition, I learned more about Jack Reacher's background and history. Jack, again, gets involved with a beautiful woman, from his past, to determine what happened to a MIA from the Vietnam war. Excellent read ! Suggest you start in the beginning of the series with the Killing Floor.
Rating: Summary: This is my worst buy of the year. Review: Page after page of descriptive detail that has little to do with a plot that is not plausible and characters that are completely unreal.
Rating: Summary: A good book, but still a notch below Killing Floor Review: I literally just finished reading Tripwire, and it was a good book, easily up there with Lee Child's other Jack Reacher books, but still not quite as "oh my god" awesome as Killing Floor. The villian this time was (without giving anything away) a fairly common type of character, whose true nature I saw coming well in advance of the final couple of chapters. Even so, this was a good novel, but not quite the "can't put it down to go to sleep" type of read that Killing Floor was. Maybe Lee Child will be like William Gibson, in that everything he writes after his first novel will be damn good, but just never able to measure up to that first work. That said, I'll still keep buying everything the guy writes.
Rating: Summary: Can't wait for the next one Review: I guess I read books for a different purpose than many of the reviewers here. I don't really care about the technical flaws in the book. I read to take my mind off of the day-to-day stuff that is going on. I'm a big fan of Lee Child and can't wait for the next Jack Reacher installment.
Rating: Summary: Child puts you in a character's head like no other author. Review: Tripwire is my least favorite of Mr. Child's four novels. Having said that, Child on a bad day is better than most writers on their best day. My 3-star rating is relation to his other 5-star books. I actually listened to this book on unabridged audio. Mr. Dick Hill does a marvelous job as he did on the prior three books. I found the violence in this one a bit gratuitous. The bad guy stretches the bounds of evil and credibility, but on the whole, the novel works. On audio, Mr. Child's constant use of "right?" in dialog tends to annoy. If you've not read Mr. Child before, start with his other books.
Rating: Summary: Well written, worth the time Review: Heinlein once said that his books had to provide the equivalent amount of entertainment of his primary competition for the working person's dollar - a six pack of beer. This book is definitely worth a six pack. I've read all three books and they are fun entertainment. This book is more pared down than the others; fewer characters, tighter writing. I think it is better.
Rating: Summary: Knocked me for a loop - great. Keep it up. Review: The first book got me hooked. The second book made me want more. The third convinced me you are great.
Rating: Summary: Good, but his first 2 books were MUCH better! Review: I am a huge Jack Reacher fan. None the less, in my opinion, we may be losing Lee Child to the world of fame and the pressure of a release date. Like most musicians and actors, once they are "dicovered" it seems they lose the drive that poverty gives them to be GREAT, and they just begin to produce. Well, Mr. Child if you read this, please know that I am a dedicated reader until given reason not to do so. I await your next release in eager anticipation of the raw talent that I came to enjoy in THE KILLING FLOOR. Stay pure and true to your talent, and I personally will keep food on your table. Until then I command all who are considering TRIPWIRE, read THE KILLING FLOOR first.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Read from a fairly new author Review: This book was great. This is the 3rd book I've read of his and all of them have been exciting and thrilling. The ending was excellent. I couldn't hardly put the book down during the last 30 pages. He is an exciting writer, full of promise.
