Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Complete Digital Photography-Great Comprehensive Book Review: It is BEST digital photography book I have read and I have purchased over 10 different books on the subject. It is comprehensive covers not only digital photography but also the principles of 35mm photography in general. It is complete! You can get information from camera type, file size, camera control, lens type, printer choice, output resolutions and many many more. I am totally impressed by this book. This is idea for some one who is new to not only digital photography but 35mm photography as well. Highly recommended.

Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Needs a good editor Review: This book explains entry level concepts well and touches upon all the topics one would need to start using a digital camera proficiently. I only award this book 3 stars since it appears that no editing or proof reading took place prior to going to press. Also, the author explains that there is more material on his web site. However, the web site appears to be still under construction, even thou this book was published in 2001! Hope this helps.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: The "In"Complete Digital Photography Review: This book is LACKING much needed information. I am a serious amatuer digital photographer. I was hoping for a book with good examples and several colored photographs. This is one fat book and it only contains EIGHT COLOR PAGES with POOR EXAMPLES. Ben Long (the author) just "touches" the subjects and never bothers to go into much detail. He also does not offer many suggestions or situations when manual functions would be helpful. Charts with examples might help (but they do not exist within this text). I also agree with the other[Amazon.com]reviewer that stated that this book needed an editor or proofreader. While reading this book I came across SEVERAL ERRORS (one error in a book is too many and this book contained many). This book did not offer me any assistance in mastering the art of digital photography. I wish I had spent my hard-earned dollars on a different book :o(
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: NOT a good all-in-one first book Review: This book is NOT a good all-in-one first book for those beginning to get involved in digital photography. This is especially true for those who are learning about photography at the same time. There are two main reasons: First, it does not have color illustrations throughout the book to illustrate the ideas; most people really benefit from these. Second, it is written by a technical writer, not a photographer. Most people would be better served by a well-illustrated book written by a photographer, with a less emphasis on the digital and more on the photography. Choices would be Freeman's Complete Guide to Digital Photography (good depth, but assumes some knowledge of photography fundamentals) or Bavister's Digital Photography (a great, concise, clear initial introduction to both the photography and digital aspects). You'll notice that the reviews here, while positive, are written by experienced photographers, who just want to learn about the digital and technical aspects; people who have read a bunch of other books already; and an instructor, so this only supplements face-to-face teaching. So if your needs match theirs, this book may be better for you than the others I recommend.
