Summary: THE TALE OF THE TERRIBLE TOYS by Richard Lee Byers
Review: Literature for kids should follow the same rules that literature for adults has to follow and this book does. Although I am an adult (a grandmother) I read some kids' books to see if they will be appropriate for children I encounter at a fencing salle of which I am a member and for other children of friends, as well as for my grandchild when she is old enough to read.

THE TALE OF THE TERRIBLE TOYS focuses on a child who faces being the new kid in school, with all the childhood horrors that brings, as well as escalating demands from the TERRIBLE TOYS, which have befriended him but then become more and more malevolent.

The story is scary but not written in an overly gruesome style. It keeps you wondering how the boy will overcome the difficulties he faces. It's got good vocabulary and is fast paced. I'd recommend it to any young reader (age 9-12) who likes a shiver or three.
