Summary: Stimulating
Review: A great read that may be hard to get into from the start, but once you do you're hooked. It's nice to see new work from promising young authors. If you are tired of the same old story and prose style, try this--you won't regret it.

Summary: Stimulating
Review: An exciting and stimulating book that captures and hold your attention from beginning to end. John Schmitt writes an exciting, thought provoking, and head scratching acccount of wasteful lives. Great Read. Waiting for the sequel. "Mate and Kill"

Summary: Raw energy and a good story
Review: I really enjoyed the style Mr. Schmitt used in this book. Each character is introduced and their story is built until they cross paths with another character. The independent story lines all tie-in together well as the book nears the end of the telling. In addition to the every increasing pace, the energy also builds through the story until the story races to conclusion. Mr. Schmitt shows how far people can go to achieve a goal or help someone else when the cost is not an issue.
Wasteful left me wanting more from this author...

Summary: Give it a chance
Review: Nice work from a promising new writer. This is definelty not your average book that reads as if it were written by a computer rather than on one. It is a little unpolished and would probably not pass muster with editors obsessed with the cookie-cutter fiction books churned out by the mainstream press. Give it a try and you won't be disappointed. I look forward to more work from Mr. Schmitt in the future.

Summary: Brutal, raw and very intriguing....
Review: Once you pick up Wasteful, it will be hard to put down. It is a great read! The story is about a number of separate characters who, we find out as the story progresses, have lives that are invisibly intertwined as it gradually works its way toward the climax. The character development is excellent. The author gives a no-hold-barred honest view into each personality, sparing no detail - no matter how graphic. I got so caught up in the character's stories, that I was completely caught off guard by some of the plot twists. They were believable, but unexpected. This is a complex, well written and intriguing story that is a thrill to read. I'm looking forward to the next one!

Summary: A raw writing style and story that hooked me from page one
Review: Quite a ride. A riveting and intraspective journey that touches on more taboo issues than any book I've read in a long time. It's a raw and brutal story that kept me turning pages with eyes wide open. I had never heard of this author, and honestly bought his book by sheer accident, but I'm glad I did. I haven't found anything else he's written but I'll definately keep looking.

Summary: True stories?
Review: This one is very intriguing. When you read this book, you can't help but ask yourself ," is this guy for real?" Very much in the tradition of Bret Easton Ellis, Joh Schmitt masterfully crafts a story that involves many familiar eleemnts to those who suffered through adolescence in suburbia. It's almost as if the entire book is bursting at the binding in an effort to release the energy that Schmitt has built up inside.
Perhaps the most impressive part of this book is it's consisitent use of graphic language and detail. From page one all the way to the end, tha author pulls no ounches, leaving the reader with some gruesome but powerful imagery.
I read this book in one day becasue it drew me in the same manner as a fatal car crash. Surreal, yes, Absurd, at times. A good read? Definitely.. Great book
