Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Schlock Theater
Review: First, let me just say: Wow. This book is like a 70's drive-in creature feature where you can see the zipper on the monster's back. It's entertaining in a throw-your-popcorn-at-the-screen kind of way, but it's also hilariously and unbelievably bad. (And a cheap rip off of Graham Masterton's THE MANITOU.) A woman grows a monster on the back of her neck and after several attempts by doctors to remove it (it grows back at one point) the monster is born and the woman runs around with a bloodthirsty critter attached to her back. I was laughing hysterically through the last 50 or so pages when the monster grows legs and starts carrying the woman around on it's back and runs loose in a mall with a SWAT team chasing it. If you enjoyed old horror movies like IT'S ALIVE and BASKETCASE, then you'll have fun with this book. I'm giving it three stars because I appreciate the kind of horror schlock that inspired it, but again let me just say: Wow.
