Summary: The Punishment - A Story of Terror
Review: I read The Punishment over ten years ago and to this day it still remains fresh in my mind. This book was a story about a troubled young woman who's mother takes her away from her present surroundings to a lighthouse on a small island off the coast of Maine. The lighthouse is owned by the mother's family and thus the story begins to unfold. The family is a bit strange at first but as the young girl spends time with them, they grow stranger and stranger and each one is hiding a secret. The young woman is on the edge in coping with her own problems that drove her to attempt suicide and as she learns more and more about the strange family, she begins to see things that aren't visible to other family members. There are so many twists and turns to this story you won't know the truth until the end of the book. It is a haunting, bone chilling story that will make you want to read it again and again. I myself thoroughly enjoyed the book and couldn't put it down until I was finished. Even then, it stayed fresh in my mind for years. I think other people will enjoy it as well because there is terror and surprise around every corner.
