Summary: Bizarre, Witty, a Trip Through The Past
Review: I don't know if the sixties were really like this but I'd say they knew how to party.
A totally naieve vampire who works nights in a railroad yard and cannot accept what he has become.
The characters are very live, and very sharp at the edges. The plot is a little loose but the writing is unique.
I liked it because I couldn't put it down and it made me laugh even while the blood was flowing.

Summary: IT HELPS TO HAVE BEEN THERE.
Review: This book was filled with more typos than I've seen in all of the hundreds of vampire books I've read in the past two years put together. Yet I liked it. This book was filled with characters who seemed to derive sustenance not so much from food but rather from every illicit hallucinogen known to man in the late 60s/early 70s. I was in my 20s in the 70s and knew people who lived and partied the way the book's characters did. I found it scary almost more for the memories and faces it brought back to me than for the fact it involved a vampire. And actually, Teller, as a vampire is not really scary, not yet anyway. Albina, the 'blood pimp', is the scary one. I can only hope that if there is indeed a Book 2 that Teller comes into his own as a vampire, fully accepting and rejoicing in his abilities, and gives Albina the comeuppance she is due. 'A Working Class Vampire Is Something to Be' is not among the best vampire literature out there, but it is a quick (I read it in a day), fun read. I think its entertainment value is enhanced if you've experienced the lifestyle.
