Rating: Summary: You Must Leave the Avenue to Live Life to the Fullest Review: Bat$#!+ Avenue is a place inside each of us, a place we have to leave if we're ever going to grow up and live our lives with some commitment to the love we demand and that is demanded from us. Unless we strip away the fear, jealousy, anger, guilt, hedonism, etc. that defines life on Bat$#!+, we're forever a prisoner in one of those god-forsaken homes within that titular neighborhood. This book is an excellent metaphor of the life each one of us lives. It's a mixture of black comedy, political incorrectness (to the extreme), and intense soul-searching. John Cleary hits his marks again and again, though with a certain lack of subtlety at times. Read "Bat$#!+ Avenue" and you'll be moved to get in that slow-moving tan van and go where it takes you.
Rating: Summary: Strange Trip Down the Avenue With John Cleary Review: Strange book, very strange. Funny in some spots, corny in others. Cleary definitely paints a picture of all that is involved in a personal journey of self-realization and awareness of the world beyond one's narrow boundaries. Bat$#!+ is angry and negative in some areas, insightful and optimistic in others. It's a quick read that is worth the effort! I recommend it despite its flaws.
