Rating: Summary: Lonely Forests......Dark and Deep Review: Being originally born in Sleepy Hollow, I had always grown up with stories of the Hessian and his wild rides through the streets, but this book brings those stories to a whole new level. You feel like you actually in the town itself, and his use of real place names and street locations are just fantastic. I have been doing much traveling in Sleepy Hollow every day, particulary along Old Sleepy Hollow Road, and sitting in my car in the dark forests whilst reading this marvelous book makes for a truely wonderful...and terrifying experience!!!
Rating: Summary: A Perfect Book for The Halloween Season Review: Every October I look forward to reading a Halloween related book to put me in the spirit of the season. I have read my share of both good and bad, but this particular book, The Fifth Horseman, is my personal favorite. Not only does it capture the feeling of October / Halloween time, but it also is based on one of the coolest villains of all time, the Headless Horseman! The storyline is also very exciting and has some very unique twist and turns. Definitely buy this book, you won't be disappointed. It exceeded my expectations and I hope for a sequel, in the meantime, I guess I will just have to read it again!
Rating: Summary: The Fifth Horseman Review: Excellent book. The descriptive nature of the writing made the book come alive. The characters are all three dimensional and lead to the reader having difficulty putting the book down. The setting and the main character(the headless horseman)lend themselves to a pleasant autumn evenings reading.
Rating: Summary: Great modern twist to the legend Review: I read this book fairly quickly which is unusual for me because I tend to get bored very quickly with reading (and the lack of time). I adore the entire storyline about the Headless Horseman. This book will not disappoint you, in fact it feels a lot like you are watching a move. Get it it's awesome !
Rating: Summary: Hudson River Gothic Review: Just got through The Fifth Horseman and couldn't sleep a wink last night. Special thanks to Mr. Gonzalez for creating a story so action packed and scary that I had repeated nightmares of the Headless Horseman jumping through my bedroom window. The novel is an incredible yarn of fantasy, dark humor, history and legend. There's even an undercurrent of an apocalyptical theme (Perhaps Mr. Gonzalez can elaborate on this one day? I would be very interested to hear his point of view as I believe there is a hidden message, but I'm not 100% sure I've got it). There is really nothing negative to say about this book, except for some typo's, but I guarantee it won't get in the way of the story. The novel is a little long, but in the age of Harry Potter, this is a piece of cake! In fact, I almost wish The Fifth Horseman had a few more pages...I'm sort of bummed that I can't read more of it.
Rating: Summary: Kendals Review of Sleepy Hollow Review: The Fifth Horseman by Gregg Gonzalez keeps you guessing from start to finish. All along, one can imagine the text dramatized on the big screen, the language is so vivid and creative. The historical refences add so much too, and will leave you wanting to visit Sleepy Hollow to see the sites. It is scary, too! I couldn't read it alone! For a first novel, this book is a wonderful read that will keep you involved from start to finish!
Rating: Summary: The Fifth Horseman Review: This book is a true thriller. I was truly consumed from beginning to end. I must say, however, it was a bit lengthy with a few typos....Otherwise some very good reading.
Rating: Summary: follows in the "hoofprints" of the orginal story. Review: This book is rich in the history and culture of both modern day and colonial Sleepy Hollow;although it never gets boring. Keeps you guessing right till the very end as to the orgins of the horseman;loved the new Tim Burton movie and loved this book. If you have a Sleepy Hollow fan on your gift list, this would be a great present.
Rating: Summary: Dark Humor and Chills! Review: When I first bought a copy of this book I expected it to be a horror story-which it is-but it has an added bonus...it's also very funny! Don't get me wrong now, it's a very dark kind of humor, but nothing too corny or too bloodthirsty. I'd give it a PG-13 rating in terms of adult content, although it certainly has its very weird and freaky moments. The Headless Horseman is very wicked, and the characters who try to hunt him down are a peanut gallery, ranging from wacky professors and priests to college drop-outs and trigger-happy cops. The plot is excellently twisted and then unwound at a lightening pace at the end. You'll need to catch your breath at the conclusion of this one - I felt like the Headless Horseman had just chased me down the street.
