Review: Douglas knows his horrors (he's also Carlos Clarens, author of "An Illustrated History of Horror and Science Fiction Films")-- and this book lays out in detail the backgrounds and histories of the legends and myths concerning vampires, zombies, werewolves, mummies, and "creatures" such as Frankenstein's monster and the Golem. It's a bit florid in places (understandably) but chock-full of detail and surprising info on how our boogie men came to be. Hard to find, but worth tracking down if you're doing a paper on such things (try also books by David J. Skal in that case). Enjoyable and informative, especially for the young.
