Summary: Ghost story
Review: "Ghost Boy" is about an 11 year old girl named Joely Gregory who meets the ghost of a murdered boy, named Martin, while visiting a graveyard at night on a dare. Martin leads Joely to evidence that points to his murderer from twenty-five years ago. At first it dosn't seem to matter much, but then children start turning up dead again; the serial killer is loose again. I was a little confused at who author Jean Simon was writing for. A lot of the time the book has the young-adult feel of a "Fear Street"-like book from R.L. Stein; but then the murders of children are truelly disturbing, and obviously not meant for younger kids. This audience confusion is my biggest complaint of the book, but certainly not the only one. The relationship between the mother, Libby and her ex-husband Brandon seemed really silly, and the budding love interest with Libby and her boss Dr. Kyle seemed like a really childish plot device. The identitiy of the killer is also a big problem; There was never a really plausable reason for his madness, and there was no clue anywhere for the revelation to make sense at the end. The relationship with Joely and her sister, Tess, was very sterotypical teenage sisters rivalry crap. And I also was pretty disappointed with Martin, the ghost. Where was he? He is the title's namesake, and he is barley there. At least it was a pretty fast paced book, and you'll be done with it pretty fast.
