Summary: find this book
Review: Harrowgate is a dark, mesmerizing ride into an almost Lovecraftian labyrinth. A painter gets involved with a woman who is apparently very dead and is pulled into a bizarre, Hellraiser-like group of dark gods. I highly recommend this book to all horror fans. It has all the elements of a good story and is one of the real standouts from the short lived Abyss line. Unfortunately, just when Gower seemed to walk out onto the stage with two very strong books, he vanished. Where are you Mr. Gower? The genre needs you!

Summary: Amazing Book!
Review: I am a fan of modern horror-- Koontz, King, Saul, Farris, the Abyss line-- and I have been through a lot of it. Gower is unique. I've read both of his books, (Orpheus Project is the other) and both were fantastically well-done. For my money Gower may well be the best out there from the standpoint of originality and just plain fun. He holds nothing back...unafraid to go completely over-the-top in outrageousness without becoming comic or ridiculous. This is great stuff. My only complaint is the author's apparent lack of productivity or proper commercial sponsorship. I only know of two works by him; no others are listed with Amazon. If it's the former, then get with it DHG! You do have fans out here. If it's the latter, then some acquisitions editor out there should wake up and start reading because this guy is a major talent.

Summary: Amazing Book!
Review: I have read both of this guy's books and I agree completely with the previous comments about the author. I can't wait to read his next creation. I would also love to see movies based on these books. Believe me, if you are a fan of scientific horror you'll enjoy this book.

Summary: a great second book for Daniel Gower!
Review: I just finished reading Harrowgate this evening, and I have to say, it was so much fun! I'm a huge fan of his previous book, The Orpheus Process, and I had high hopes for his second novel. Luckily, I wasn't disappointed in the least. Harrowgate has a great premise, a nearly-starving artist finds his inspiration in all the wrong places and accidentally opens a gateway to hell, which he must find a way to close and save the world from the horror that he's unleased. At its heart its a love story wrapped in the dark, demented world of ten would-be gods and their servants-- the gaurdians of the abyss. One of these gaurdians is a beautiful young dead girl behaving badly, Ashley. She's wild, dangerous, and the lead character, Julian Stormer, can't resist her. Oh yeah, and did I mention she was dead? Proving that love knows no bounds, Julian is able to transcend this fact and find the good in Ashley, doing whatever it takes to get her free from the masters she serves. Don't worry, there's enough monsters, gore, and road rage to keep it from being the Harlequin Romance novel I just turned it into. Daniel Gower doesn't fail to deliver with this book, it was a great read from start to finish, and just as deliciously over the top as his first novel. So where's the follow up? Its been ten years since Harrowgate was published, I know I'm not the only one clamoring for more! I can only hope that Mr. Gower occasionally checks these things and sees that he's still got fans out here who can't wait for book number three.
