Rating: Summary: 'Vacant Spaces has everything that makes a good horror novel Review: 'Vacant Spaces has everything that makes a good horror novel' Review of VACANT SPACES by Mark Andrew Ware: A teenage girl, brutally raped under her parents' eyes to prepare her for future purposes so hideous, a sane mind couldn't imagine them. A young mother rushing to the aide of a long lost friend and plunging head first into a maelstrom of terrible past and evil present. An autistic little boy finding himself in the clutches of diabolical powers, and only one person can save him - his mother who is tangled in a carefully spun web that makes her the perfect bait for the spider called Evil... Vacant Spaces has everything that makes a good horror novel: Threatening, gloomy atmosphere, shadows lurking in attic and basement of an old New York brownstone, creaking wooden stairs and mysterious occurrences, sinister characters and diabolical, cunning minds who will do anything to reach their terrifying goal. The author, Mark Andrew Ware, throws his readers right into the center of a swirling vortex of terror when he has them witness the brutal rape of a teenage girl. From there, he develops a fast paced story filled with an atmosphere of hair raising terror and suspense and pushes his readers towards a climax that has them bite their nails. Mark Andrew Ware is a talented writer who has the rare gift to grip his readers with the first few pages and make them continue reading to find out how the story ends. Vacant Spaces, his debut novel, is one of those rare books that keep you reading without wanting to skip chapters to read the end first. A horror novel that should be read in candlelight or in the light of a bedside lamp. A novel that sends shivers up and down your spine. And most of all, a novel that will make you want to read more stories by Mark Andrew Ware. Vacant Spaces is definitely not a book to just fill a vacant space in your book shelf. It's more. It's a must to be read. Reviewed by Jasper P. Morgan. Jasper P. Morgan lives in Germany. He's written close to a hundred western and horror novels published in Germany and is presently working on his first horror movie screen play and a screen play for a German horror/mystery television series. --------------------------------------
Rating: Summary: horror trash at its worst.....who signed this author??? Review: Being the horror fan that I am....I was quickly drawn to the cover of this book...after I began reading the book....I was scared too death....scared of the story that is....This storyline has been done and I was not even interested in finishing this book, but just to prove myself right I did finish the book only to be completely satisfied that I WAS right and It ended just like every other story like this....Dont even bother and read a real story from a real author like...Neil Gaiman, Dean koontz, etc. Please pass on by this title. Later readers!!!!
Rating: Summary: Well written, well worth the time Review: I add my review to this strange mix (five reviews from one enthusiastic reviewer, the rest either 5 stars or 1 star, no middle ground) with a ting of guilt (the author and I exchanged books months ago), and though Mark hasn't reviewed mine on line yet, I'm happy to report that I really liked his style. So much of the genre is lit-lite stuff, without a "voice," and Ware defies the norm with a demonstration of true talent.
Rating: Summary: The best mystery, horror I've read in a long time... Review: I just finished Vacant Spaces after a couple of people suggested I buy it and I am sorry that it is over. This was a most enjoyable read, the plot was solid and the story flowed smoothly, right up untill the surprising end. I espeacially enjoyed this author's style of writing, he weaves his characters and stroy lines with great suspence. Without giving away the ending I hope that there will be a part two to this story, if so I will be the first in line to buy. Bravo to the best mystery, horror I've read in a long time!
Rating: Summary: Impressive and worth the read... Review: Mark Andrew Ware's Vacant Spaces is not the type of novel I normally buy. That may have changed! He writes with a Robert Ludlum style of suspense. There's no such thing as "I'll read one more chapter then go to bed" with this book! Each chapter ends making you turn the page and read on! The plot twists will keep you guessing until the end. You may want to read this with the lights on and someone else in the house! I'd love to see this as a movie! Great job, Mr. Ware! Looking forward to your next work!
Rating: Summary: Twists and turns! A great new author of horror! Review: The cover of this book grabbed me and after the first few chapters I was hooked. Finished the book in just two sittings. The story flows easy and the characters are intriguing. This story will please gothic novel fans and horror fans alike. The ending is to die for! I will definitely look for more of this author's work!
Rating: Summary: A good old fashion horror read Review: This book is a quick and easy read for those fans of the good old fashion horror stories. Well paced, it holds your attention. Sometimes you wish the main character would wise up but for such a quick read it is written with a fresh style and doesn't ever really get boring. 4 stars...
Rating: Summary: wowwow wowo Review: This book is a roller coaster ride of terrifying events from page one. A great tribute to stories such as Rosemary's Baby and The Exorcist! But with twist and turns you never expect. Fabulous surprise ending will have you gasping. This author is one that will go at the top of my list!
Rating: Summary: Impressive and worth the read... Review: This book's plot and story line is so subtle, so easy going that when you realize that it's not just a mystery but a horrifying journey into one woman's phsyce, it's too late, you're hooked. At first look you would say it's a good mystery, then, no a great horror, but what Vacant Spaces really is is a psychological thriller. Even the main character is not sure if what she is experiancing is real or a figment of her imagination...you be the judge.
Rating: Summary: Best horror of the year... Review: Vacant Spaces didn't surprise me...it scared me! And that's what i look for in a horror novel. There are some truly creepy parts to this book. There were times that i would look up from its pages and forget where i was, i was really expecting to see the old brownstone, Mark Andrew Ware is so descriptive you become one with the characters and surroundings. If you really like horror novels that chill, then you'll love this book!
