Summary: Realistic Imagination
Review: And that's what i like about this book, the imagination is not so far out of reach that you roll your eyes but keep reading. The characters have to face real decisions in crisis and this helps propel the plot interest. There's bad guys you'll love to hate and bad guys who'll surprise you when you find yourself understanding their nuances. Caley seems like an enigma, but she's really just so good a person, in touch with morality but not handicapped by it. Dr. Barry's journal entries were a good way of communicating what's happening in the plot outside of the immediate characters and flashbacks in time really assist in getting to know the pertinent players. The book jumps really quick and if you're not prepared for that type of movement than i think it might lose some readers who want more of a slowed pace that's full of lavish detail. I haven't seen anything else by the author and in some areas i think he could improve his overall writing skills, still, overall, i liked the book, its pace and its characters.

Summary: homespun horror
Review: It was great to finally read a vampire book based in my home state, i know all of these areas where the action occurs. The only name changed, and town slightly altered, was Evergreen, which is named Aspen Grove in the book.
After the prolog, which occurs in Georgetown and ties into the story really well later on, the beginning chapters outline the main character, Caley. Caley is primarily raised by the local town doctor and there is alot of innocense in these first chapters. I kept thinking that this book could have actually continued as a human interest fiction account of an orphan growing up in the pristine rockies of Colorado. But enter the evil of J & J's Artesse, Inc. (Julia and Julian) into Aspen Grove and this book becomes a serious horror novel. I liked the authors use of violence in that it involved fair play to both sexes, too many times its only the women who are victimized with a sexual overtone. Caley's a girl next door type with a tender heart and I was amazed at how she reacted to being assaulted and changed. THERE'S ALOT OF REAL LIFE REACTION IN THESE HUMAN AND NON HUMAN CHARACTERS! This is an awful lot of story in a relatively short book and I hope the author follows with another soon! AND INCLUDES ALOT OF "ETHAN" IN THE NEXT ONE!

Summary: fast and fun
Review: The pace of this book just keeps moving. I thought the innocence that is present in the first few chapters (which is almost childlike) was a wonderful way to represent and even validate the change that was coming in Caley's life, because when it changes, it really changes!
The characters were well described and I really liked the flash backs to help get to know them better. Ethan is my favorite and has qualities unlike any other character in a vampire novel. There is a lot of well timed humor in this book and several really unique ideas. The book is written in two parts and both end well in their own right. There can easily be a sequal which I hope comes soon. This book was nothing but fun, creepy and very entertaining!

Summary: like a movie in my mind
Review: This book reads like a movie! I could see everything happening in my mind like it was on the screen, right down to how the chapter breaks switch scenes. I haven't been able to find anything else by the author, but i wouldn't be surprised if he is a screenwriter. If you like vampire novels that give you glimpses of the characters past, I do, then you should like this book. There's occasional humor that is pretty dry but kept me smiling. It's hard to talk about the characters and not start giving away the plot, but I really liked Ethan all the way through the book. And the scene at the farm is hilarious. The ending was fun and will keep you thinking about the characters for awhile. I've let two of my friends read it and they loved it too. Ok, this sounds like i'm reviewing a comedy, I'm not, this is definately vampires and horror and evil, although sometimes the vampires aren't as evil as the victims. My friend Kerry thinks the author does a great job of weaving real life human issues through the story and characters and that the story is alot about addiction and the chaos that can result from abusing any substance stronger than your own will. Wow! . . . thanks Kerry (she never skips class). Anyway, read it, you'll like it too.

Summary: Twists and Turns
Review: This is a vampire book I did not want to put down. It has series written all over it and I hope there's a sequal. The characters and plot merge adn blend at a great pace. I read alot of vampire books and this one should be made into a movie. I hope it'll be a series.

Summary: Great Action
Review: This was how i stayed awake last night. It's a wicked read in both content and pace. I actually looked up Tara on the net this morning and realized the author had done his homework. You get to really jump along with the characters as they keep jumping from event to event. Ethan and Raina are way cool (especially in the forest). Julia kept changing to me, but i understood why and that made it fun too, i did't feel like the writer was intentionally outsmarting me. It begs for a sequal, which I think is done intentionally, but I'll still buy it. Good horror book!
