Rating: Summary: Keep your eyes on Gerlach Review: Having been a fan of the late Richard Laymon, trying a novel from the guy who kept the Richard Laymon website running was a must. And the book proved to be every bit as good as Laymon at his best.People were gorssed by the book (yes, it was explicit and disgusting in points), but they MUST have also been in awe. The main character is a turd, undoubtedly. But as you read RAGE, you can feel sorry for him (but never sorry enough for the climax!) Great characterisation, and a very enjoybale read. Get it, read it, love it!
Rating: Summary: Hold on Tight Review: How do you write a review for a book that leaves you speechless? I read this book over 2 nights and dreamt about it for 3 nights after! Gerlach has an uncanny way of connecting you emotionally to the main character of RAGE. He creates a new emotion to allow the reader to both Love and Hate at the same time. The descriptive text allows you to visualise the scenes so vividly that you feel as though you're part of the story. Those of you who have been rejected will be smiling from cover to cover...those of you who have rejected will be looking over your shoulders for weeks!
Rating: Summary: Hardcore Gruel and Gore in an Unsettling Tale of Violence Review: On the cover of the paperback edition of Steven Gerlach's Rage a fellow author describes this book as "a volcano of a book." In some ways he's right. This book started slowly, almost boringly. The tension slowly builds until the ultra-violent but highly predictable ending. I really didn't like this book. I am surprised I finished it. The saving grace was probably the pacing. I flew through the book in under three hours. One of the major problems was the repetitive ramblings of the main character. Gerlach gives you a front row seat for the text book psychopathic mindset of a sociopath. The book reads like a primer into the traditional beliefs of the life of a serial killer. The murder and torture of small animals, the experimentation with homosexuality at a young age, the difficulty dealing with women and the ever increasing need for perverse and increasingly hard-core pornography. This book was just way over the top for me. Gerlach accomplished his goals and I won't criticize his skill, but there were no redeeming qualities or likable characters in this book.
Rating: Summary: ANOTHER GREAT NOVEL BY THE KING OF THRILLS FROM DOWN UNDER Review: RAGE is an emotional rollercoater of a novel from the King of Thrills From Down Under. RAGE has an excellent plot, well rounded characters, and suspense that will make you fly through this book like there is no tomorrow. Clive Barker has been called the future of Horror in the past, but that was a long time ago now. I guarantee you the future of horror is here and it is Mr. Gerlach. Hands down one of the top 5 books I have ever read. Bravo Steve!!!
Rating: Summary: Rage Review: Rage tells the story of Ben Jackson, an insecure college student who is getting sick of the way women treat him. They look down at him, they reject him, they treat him like a piece of trash. At least, this is how Ben sees it.
Nobody knows, but deep inside, everything is starting to get too much for him. Slowly, anger starts building up inside of him. And how Ben deals with this anger..........well, I don't want to spoil that for you, but it is well worth finding out.
Gerlach's style of writing is cold and crystal clear. The book is very easy to read, yet you can still picture the scenes in your mind with ease. For me, there was never a dull moment, never did I feel I had to skip paragraphs because they were boring. Every sentence is fun to read, even in situations that would be boring in other books, such as Ben going to the library, or talking to his parents.
If you don't appreciate reading scenes of fairly graphic sex or mutilation, then Rage probably isn't for you. There are only a few of these moments, but they are fairly extreme. If, like me, this is how you like your fiction, then Rage is sure to satisfy.
Rage really has it all: love; sorrow; death; happiness and anger. If you like your fiction hard-hitting and bloody, then Rage is for you.
So to find out how Ben Jackson spirals out of control, and who he takes his rage out on, buy this book. You won't regret it.
Rating: Summary: This book will blow you away! Review: Reviewer: Cat from UK Steve Gerlach is a very talented writer. He gets your mind working overtime and makes you feel the RAGE of Ben, this books main character. Ben is like you and me except for the fact he can't seem to handle the things that life throws at him - good or bad. Ben shows us what goes through the mind of a sad, lonely, and desperate person, living for nothing. At any point he could snap and things could go bad - real bad. This book will shock, scare, amaze, worry and very likey at parts disturb you, but it's definatley worth reading, I'd recommend it to everyone. I'm not going to say anymore and spoil the book as the reader needs to feel the shock I did. RAGE is the first book I have read by Steve Gerlach but I can safely say that it won't be the last!
Rating: Summary: Keep your eyes on Gerlach Review: Steve Gerlach's Rage reads a lot like the movie Falling Down (starring Michael Douglas). You will see, in details, what it takes to make an already tortured soul cross the line to completely immerse himself into madness. The book is dark and very violent. I don't think I can say that I really enjoy reading all of it. But like Jack Ketchum's The Girl Next Door, this is one book that uses words and realism to create power and terror. Ben is 23 years old and never had a girlfriend. Everything about life seems to make him tick; girls, his friends and especially his parents. He can't seem to find happiness, no matter how hard he tries. Girls never approach him and, when he does find the courage to approach them, they discard him like a piece of trash. When Ben finally meets Christine, a young librarian, he thinks that their love will be forever. But only too soon, Christine realizes how deeply troubled Ben is. Fear takes the better of her, and that rage that's always boiling within Ben finally rises to the surface. Ben buys a gun and... Well, I'll leave the rest for you to read. I'll just say that the final climax is highly disturbing and not for everyone. This isn't an Agatha Christie thriller folks. This is realistic horror at its more visceral. Althgough the writing can be a bit tedious at times (some section needed to be elaborated a bit more, while others ran on for a bit too long), Ben's descent into madness is one of the more realistic things I've read in a long while. This is the kind of real-life scenario that has the power to send violent shudders down your spine. This is what horror is all about. Did I like Rage? Yes and no. Some scenes were a bit too extreme for my taste. Did I admire it? Yes. This is the kind of book that is bound to shock and make people talk. Still, reading it is somewhat enlightening for the reader. In the end, you'll be even more aware of the real-life horrors that surround us. But is that a good thing? Well, the jury is still out on that one...
Rating: Summary: A Fantastic Debut Limited Edition Novel Review: This book builds to a crescendo of "Rage" resulting in a novel that shows how a person can explode if they are driven far enough. A great debut novel that "Richard Laymon" would be proud of. This cannot be rated highly enough! A++++
Rating: Summary: RAGE Review: This book was great, I would recommend it to any horror/suspense fan. It kept me interested from start to finish.
You don't usually feel for the bad guy, but in this case you could not help it. I could have not been more impressed and I can't wait to get my hands on more of Steve's books.

Rating: Summary: Unforgetable Rage Review: This novel was absolutely amazing. I have never read a book that horrified , shocked, and haunted me as much as Rage did. Steve Gerlach has the unbelievable gift of taking his readers to places where most people would never even admit thinking, let alone say out load. Yes, this book is disgusting and disturbing, but I think that was his desired effect. Rage is fantastic, and it's a book that I am able to read over and over again without getting sick of. (As I have already found out!) I hope he keeps the novels coming!
