Rating: Summary: A Worthy Successor to Lovecraft Review: I have always enjoyed reading Lovecraft and was very sad when I had read all of his published works. Having discovered Brian Lumley, I find that I continue to get that same feeling with each of his stories. In The Burrowers Beneath, Brian Lumley moves from a Lovecraft imitator to a successor to Lovecraft. Having written many stories which invoke the Lovecraftian feelings of cosmic horror and ineffectiveness of man to combat evil, in this novel Lumley takes the "Cthulhu Mythos" in his own direction. For the first time we see mankind fighting back in an organized and effective manner. There is more of a science fiction feel introduced in The Burrowers Beneath, which continues in the next book in the series, The Transition of Titus Crow. If you like Lovecraft, you'll like The Burrowers Beneath.
