Rating: Summary: Pretty good Review: I loved the apocalyptic aura of this book. The author makes Vampirism more than a state of being, he turns it into a disease that plagues New York City. I felt for the characters, one of whom has leukemia, an interesting blood-parallel. I found it quite eerie in parts, and would definitely recommend it for vampire fiction fans.
Rating: Summary: Interesting read that could have used more detail Review: I've recently embarked on a quest to find decent horror fiction beyond the juggernauts like King and Koontz, and this one stirred my curiosity. It starts with the curious mystery of a statue that is found, dressed like a cliched vampire. The mystery of whether or not it is real is spoiled rather quickly when passages of the narrative begin to be told from the creature's point of view. Still, the book involved me, as the new keeper of the vampire becomes infected by it and inadvertantly starts a vampire plague. The difference here being each one has a physical and psychic link to the frozen man who we gradually find out more about. A decent read that really could have used more pages to flesh out some of the concepts. One small but kind of significant element involves how the statue is subjected to sunlight and its face is distorted. As a result everyone who is infected develops a concavity in his head. This sets up some creepy scenes but could have been better explained. More significant is the promise of a full-blown vampire infestation of New York, which is only really touched upon but made to seem very important by its introduction in a prologue. So, to sum up, a decent read, but rather underdeveloped. According to a web horror sight I went to the author's real name is T. Lucien Wright, and has written other books under that name, as has his twin brother (!), T. M. Wright.
Rating: Summary: Not really a vampie novel.... Review: Okay...I know that it says it's a vampie novel....it's really not. Sure there was a vampie, but it was kind of made of wax...This vampie (max) has a lot of mind control on others, and that's it. He did his wammie on others to get them to do his will. We meet an somewhat interesting cast of characters. I'd love to have know more about Emily. For me...what brought his book down...there really wasn't any vampies munching. Just a lil bit. I read a lot of vampie novels, and the one thing I like to have in my vampie books is "vampie" munching. This was just a slow moving read. If you want to read it, I suggest you try and find it at the used bookstore or better yet at a library.
