Summary: A Review of Laymon's Halloween Hunt: Be Warned!
Review: As I've recently come to understand, this book is part of the fastback horror series. That could explain it's lack of content. The fact that it is double fastback horror only means it lacks a little less content. The book is fairly unexciting and uninteresting. The only exciting part in it is never pre-empted by anything and does not last very long. The only truly tense moment is when the main character begins to question the identity of the ghost in their group. This opened many a twisted possibility, and closed with the least exciting one. I won't tell you what it is as it may be the only tension you get. I love Laymon, I've worked my but off to get his books (and thanks now to Leisure Books for finally making them accesible, it's a pain going to Europe just for a good, cheap, long novel). of course, I can't blame Laymon to much. The idea of the title fast back horror is that you can get through it quickly, 30 minutes tops. Not much content can be put in. But, I feel he could have centered on the more suspenseful parts fo the book rather than match them equally to the senseless teen shenanigans (of which there are some, even if few. Again, few due to the size of the book). I would not reccomend this at all. Get one of his two US novels. They're cheaper, and much better reads (well, I'm starting on Rainy Day, but I finished bite only a few hours ago). And, some of his best works cannot be found here, such as Endless Night. But, I can't review other books. Anyway, I'd say, get this only if you are a Laymon freak who needs his work attatched through Intravenus to your major organs so that you can go on living for another day. Otherwise, go to England and get a whole bunch of his novels. It's expensive, but much more worth it.

Summary: The Hunt Begins
Review: I have never understood the chapbook industry. Paying a lot for a single short story just doesn't seem right. But, when I can find one used for a decent price, I might check it out. This one is double the usual size from this publisher (60 pages instead of 26).

Linda goes to a Halloween party mainly to get back at the jerk she dumped. The party host is known for being rather outrageous; last party had a real cadaver present. This party has the partygoers splitting into teams on a scavenger hunt. On Linda's team is the jerk and an unidentified ghost.

The plot takes us through a graveyard, a funeral home, and a spooky house. All the way various twists are thrown out and we have to figure which one will develop into the horror.

Nice story with plenty of red herrings to keep you guessing although I doubt anyone will actually guess the ending (this is Laymon after all).

I wouldn't recommend paying a lot for this one but it is worth reading.

Review: Very short little story. (60 pages) Laymon delivers a surprise ending despite the short length. Very little character development.
