Summary: Disappointing
Review: As a fan of the sci- fi and horror genres, I'm always on the lookout for new novels. I found the title of Mr. Pine's book to be captivating. I asked myself if there was anything left that hasn't already been told to shed some new light (pardon the pun) on the vampire tale. It turns out, according to Dawn of the Blood Moon, there isn't. I initially thought that Pine started out with a refreshing twist on a much overdone favorite subject of horror novels. What he ended up giving his readers was the literary equivalent of cold oatmeal. Pine has packed too many characters and much antiquated, stale dialogue into this rehashing of any vampire movie you've ever seen any vampire novel you've already read. Blade, Van Helsing, Anne Rice's chronicles of Lestat-you name it, Pine has used it to create this novel. Granted, he probably didn't blatantly lift any of these works, but one can't help but feel that we've experienced this all before, only. . . better.

For a novel that is supposed to take place in part in New York City, it's hard to believe for a moment that Pine actually left his living room or even bothered to take a virtual tour of the city, in attempting to bring the setting to life. It might have done Pine some good to have interviewed any native New Yorkers, or include some specific landmarks, venues, restaurants or avenues, as opposed to making vague references to "Central Park" or "the subway".

Certainly, when writing a book there must be some standard formula one should adhere to, such as making sure you've introduced all major characters by the first half of the book, or not killing off the main villain before the book is half over. Unfortunately, Pine has violated these rules. For a 150+ page book, there are too many characters, (this isn't Tolstoy, for goodness sake) leaving the readers to feel as if we haven't really gotten to know any of them, and that we shouldn't care about what happens to them. That, plus his lackluster attempts at eroticism left me wondering if I was reading a bodice ripper.

So, if a vampire tale is what you crave, there surely are much better places to find one. Dawn does have its share of clever and interesting moments. If you are looking for an interesting plot, this may be the book for you. But if you are looking for a good novel, you may want to pass on this one.

Summary: Some things are just good
Review: Books come and go. People write some things, publish them, and you go on.

Pine's book is not one of these. He writes the story of vampires. He writes the story of the evil we all face. He writes the stories we all like to read.

His characters are real. His story line is as unique as his approach to the vampire characters. More than a few people will be reading this book. Make sure you are one of them.

Summary: A Different Twist on a Vamipe Tale
Review: T. H. Pine's book puts new twists and turns to the traditional vampire sories that we all grew up with

I found Andross and Tamala to be my favorite characters.

This book would be a great addition to any horror/thriller fan. The book is a quick read. I found the uniqueness of Pine's story refreshing.

A great book for the beach!
