Summary: A Page Turner
Review: Lightning, by Dean Koontz, is an amazing thriller that captivates the reader. The book is very fast paced and intriguing. The characters are very realistic and do not have bland personalities. Laura, the main character, comes off as a very determined and funny woman. All the characters are lively and believable. There are a few scenes that stick out the most in the book. If you have not read the book, I advise not reading anymore or this review. When Laura is a child and is at her father's store a man comes in and robs the store. He also intends to rape Laura in the stock room but before he can do anything, Stephen, a character not known at this point, kills the robber. He then makes a believable story about how there were two robbers and they got into an argument and one shot the other and fled. The next scene that stuck out in my memory was when Laura's husband, Danny, dies. This is memorable because it is so unexpected and you expect Stephen to save them, but he cannot. The last scene that sticks out in my memory is the end of the book when Stephen and Laura become romantically involved. This adds a happy ending to the book because the reader is not sure if they will be together. I recommend this book to any person in need of a good story.

Summary: Not Really Great....
Review: The Book was very good in the beginning and then it got boring in the middle. Most of the book was unbelievable, the dialogue was just so fake. It took me forever to read this book because it made me feel tired and I thought this was Dean's weakest book.

Summary: Quite good fantasy story with fantastic characters
Review: This is a great story filled with great characters. The main characters are all extremely memorable and likeable, and Dean Koontz does a marvelous job of weaving together the different timelines in a way that is quite engaging. The story is told linearally, despite hopping a bit across the timeline, but it's very smooth and not at all choppy.

The science fiction twist of the time travel used in this story is quite surprising, and the first time I read this, I had not even begun to remotely anticipate the origin of the time travelers. There is also some made-up "facts" about time travel that are also fun. Pure fantasy, like the fact that, no matter how long someone is gone in another timeline, whether it is one second or a decade, they are gone in the present always for X number of minutes. (I think it was eleven, but I may not be remembering correctly.) Anyhow, just little things like that add to the texture of this novel.

The ending did feel a bit rushed in places. Some stuff was almost thrown in there like an afterthought. That's the only reason I give this a four instead of a five. I recommend reading "Lightning" for its characters alone. Laura is a phenomenal heroine, and her life would make fascinating reading, even without the supernatural/science fiction elements of this novel mixed in.

Summary: EXCELLENT!!
Review: This is the first Dean Koontz book I've ever read. I avoided his books in the past because I thought they were purely horror. Then a friend advised me to read this one. What a great book!

The main character in this book is Laura. When this book opens we are at the moment of her birth -- a handsome stranger appears and stops a drunk doctor from going to the hospital to assist in her delivery. He is very polite and kind to the drunk doctor as he ties him to a chair and calls the hospital to let them know he won't be going there to deliver her. As a result she is delivered by other doctors, mother dies in childbirth, and a sweet wonderful father is the only remaining family she has. Through her life a few major incidents occur where this kind stranger appears and saves her from danger. Who is this man who arrives in a flash of lightening? Laura begins to think of him as her guardian angel.

Throughout this well written tale we see Laura wed and have a wonderful little boy. The guardian angel appears sporatically in her lifetime. As an adult she begins to wonder just where he comes from.

I won't tell you more as it would spoil the rest of the plot. The book had lots of twists and turns, an enormous amount of suspense, a love story, and an element of science fiction/fantasy that'll keep you glued to your seat. Once you start reading you won't want to stop. This is a great story no one should miss. After you finish reading it you'll find yourself saying to your friends as I have: "you've GOT to read this book!"

Summary: An AWESOME novel
Review: What can I say about this novel that will be any different than the multitudes of other reviews. There is no doubt that this novel reigns as one his best. I don't want to repeat what already has been posted, but it's hard not to praise this book for the unique world it creates, and the pure enjoyment that comes from reading it. You will laugh, cry, and be blown away by the characters and story.

I read this twice over the years, and along with his novel "Midnight", it is my favorite; in fact, it is one of my favorite novels of all time.
